Insurance moan

Featured Replies

Received my renewal quote from Saga for the VRS & it was £510, which I must admit was a shock being 50+ & 10yrs NCB so I did a net search & got it down to £350 so I thought well thats not to bad then I saw a 12 wk free offer from Aviva, I did a quote & with better conditions than Saga Aviva quoted £270 so I'm well chuffed.

I know some will be paying more than £510 but you do have to bear in mind age etc...

I'm shocked. I'm 30 and only pay just over £300 for my A4

Hi Neil,

Saga also quoted £510 for my bog standard  Roomster.

I too, insured with Aviva for £270

Interestingly, Saga beat Aviva (by some considerable margin) for my Home Insurance

I rang SAGA but they didn't seem to want to negotiate this year, as I've just taken early retirement I removed business use with SAGA & it only dropped slightly, I have my motorbike insured with Aviva via Carole Nash so looks like it will be car as well.

You'll hate to know then I'm 22 and my Monte will be £450 for the year to insure :p

20 years old and my VRS will be £600 for the year, and thats without a couple of the extra discounts I get.

Frobb that's pretty incredible to be fair lol

Worth bearing in mind that the area you live in paired with the car you own seems to have a huge bearing on the premiums.

Friend of mine switched to a 'performance' car having driven something 'normal' in the past and found his premium shot up massively. He then moved, and his insurance company re-quoted and all of a sudden the premium halved.

He didn't exactly live in a nice area before, but my point stands!

For that reason I think it's difficult for people to compare premiums...

£332 for me - Fabia vRS

I'm 28 with 5 years NCD

That was with Admiral

I think everyone should shop round this year there's still deals to be had if your willing to put in the search time.

Im 19 (20 in September) with 2 years no claims and when my vRS arrives its going to be around the £1000 a year mark.

Which isnt too bad when you think about it. Ive got a 1.6 TDCi ford fiesta zetec s at the moment and just paid £975 for the year so for a extra £25 to get the vRS beast :) im well chuffed

I've got 2 years NCB as of about a week ago I think. I also live in an area where I think the crime rate must be about 0 haha! Cars kept on my driveway overnight and at work during the day. Also an Admiral customer, have been with them since I started driving which probably helps out as they just say, okay, heres your price, we'll take £££ off for being with us for however long and £££ off cos your parents are with us and also insured on your vehicle. :) I have to admit, insurance companies are RIDICULOUSLY inconsistant but it's always nice to bitch and moan and get the discounts! :D

Interesting - I live in a "D" class postcode :|

It's annoying in a way because the postcode class really does seem to make a huge difference yet it's one of the few factors with insurnace you can't easily change.

Fortunately, Wiltshire in it's entirety is mostly B :p

It's a bit generalised though - where I live the crime is not too high, but I'm sure in other, nearby areas crime is worse.

I'm classed in the same postcode as a slightly, how do I put it, less friendly and welcoming (?) area but it's 9 miles away, yet it's still classed as a Class A which astonishes me! Not complaining though.

My mini insurance is £480 at the minute so I'm hoping for a big saving when the vrs is due. Trouble is the gits charge £50 to change my info!

Well.... 27yrs old, 9 years NCB, no points, no mods, private gated carpark overnight, private gated car park during the day at work (or vice versa if night shift :p) , pass-plus and IAM qualified through police blue light driving course, generous voluntary excess etc etc etc

BUT... I live in Manchester so high risk :(

For my upcoming vRS..

Admiral - £562; next best £1500+++ !!!!

Yikes! I'm in an "F" zone - I'm hardly in the crime capital of the world (or England). Explains why it costs over 400 for my 1.2 htp :'(

I'm 20, 2 years no claims, C class area.. admiral was my cheapest quote for a vrs at 1418..

But this was back in march when I renewed for my 1996, 1.2L clio.. to which I paid 762..

I should be picking up the vrs on fri/sat, Expecting to pay another 700+.. im just hoping the premium hasnt gone up since march

And im off work fri so im going to see if i can take it then, working saturday so may have to wait till sunday!!

One thing you have to watch out with Aviva (and Swiftcover) is that when you come to leave them they will only provide you with proof of 5 years NCB.

This isn't so bad if you are a new driver, but if you are like me with 7 years NCB it is a huge kick in the face if you use them for a year then move elsewhere and have an accident shortly after. You will be looking at dropping from 7 years down to 3 in one fail swoop.

I was minutes away from insuring with Aviva until I read through the small print.

Says I live in an E postcode area but where I live is pretty safe, nothing ever happens around here lol ...

Admiral may be cheap everyone but if you have an accident they won't replace your car in the first year with a new one, just write it off at market value. Also if you want it to go to your own garage, you have to send in 2 estimates from 2 garages you want to use and they authorise the lower one... you also get no courtesy car if you use a non approved repairer and recovery after an accident is limited to 'Car taken to nearest garage... you taken to a bus/train station if its on the way'

2 points here

If you join a company with more than 5 years but their max is 5... when you get your NCD issued the insurer can write a letter stating 'The client came to us with 8 years, but our maximum registered is 5'

Also, insurance companies may give discounts PAST 5 years but in respect to a claim... ALL insurers default your NCD to 5 years in the event of a claim. So you may have 20 years NCD, doesn't mean you can have 8 claims before it goes to 4 years.. simply doesn't work like that sorry
