Fabia 1.9 SDI Fuel Pumps

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just out of curiousty can anyone tell me if there is a seperate electric fuel pump under the car as I looked at the unit that sits in the top of the fuel tank and it just looks like a sender unit to say how much fuel is in the tank? I did notice the plunger pot but it just looks mechanical?

Basically no fuel is getting up to the fuel filter hence won't start. the 109 relay is pulling in but I am not sure where to look next?

Any guidance would be welcome as I am a diesel dummy!!!

I would be tempted to fill the filter with fuel and try to start her again. If the filter becomes empty it can be very difficult to start as the single pump has to pull fuel up from the tank. On Felicia diesels I found them impossible to start after a filter change without filling the filter first. I know this is a silly question, but have you got fuel in the tank?

You may need to loosen the fuel union nut on injector 3. Put a rag around it and get someone to crank the engine. Don't crank the engine for more than 20s every minute.

NB - Relay 109 is the ECU power relay.

Many Thanks for all the help,

No such thing as a silly question but yes there is lots of fuel in the tank. As for the relays I read a thread on here about a fuel pump relay but I have only seen 3 so far, a number 18, the 109 and I cannot remember the other one 36?. I did read on here someone mentioned a 410 relay but goodness knows where to look for that one as I couldn't see anymore under the dash.

The only other point to mention is a buzzing noise coming from the plug by the air hose and inlet manifold I have no idea what this is apart from annoying any ideas?

There is no fuel pump relay, so stop looking :)

As for the noise - a picture would help. Where is in relation to the air filter and engine?

Thank you for that phew!!!

Sadly I can't add a picture but if you look at the end of the air filter hose that is attached to the inlet manifold where the throttle butterfly is on the outer face is a black plastic plug and this is what is buzzing

I keep thinking its some kind of position sensor? but I don't how it works or if it can be bypassed or reset?

Hope this helps identifying it

Just checked mine for buzzing-yes it does. I think they may all do it. Red herring, methinks.

Just what we neeed a mystery maybe we need DCI Barnaby on the case LOL!!!

Still would be nice to know what it is though mainly because if I spray some cold start into the manifold where the butterfly is it will fire so I am back to square one I will re-prime the system today and let you know how I get on

Any news on this?

Sadly not no news as yet re-bled the fuel system and fuel going to injectors ok all glow plugs working fine. If I spray cold start into inlet manifold it will fire but still won't run on its own. I am now waiting on a code reader to see if it can tell me what the problem is once I know I will post the answer here in the meantime any other ideas are more than welcome

Can you see the butterfly opening and staying open?

When you loosened the fuel union nut on injector 3, did fuel leak from injector union?
