Load your SD card from MS OUTLOOK

Featured Replies

I have some very crude macros for MS Outlook.

They enable you to keep the coordinates in outlook and write them out as visiting cards( .vcf) to your SD card.

You still need the coords in the first place but google maps provide those

You can then build different sets of coords and write them to SD.

If you don't import them, then your OUTLOOK is always the master copy

Does this appeal to anybody else? if so I could post the macros for you to play with

This is NOT professional grade software

Hmm, 51 views and not a single response... that's saying something

Maybe I'm stupid, but what's the point with this?

With the latest fimware you can import .vcf files into the columbus from SD card, so you could import all your destinations without having to actually enter them on the columbus. You can create them directly from the internet anyway from the VW Nav Companion website, register on the site and away you go. MS Outlook although it creates .vcf files, they are missing key areas of data needed by the columbus.

Hey, that's a good resource. Just signed up - presume a VW Passat will be compatible satnav to Columbus? I notice it also supports the RNS-E for my Audi TT too.

Thanks for the offer, Nigel, but - as you see - the facility is already available. Perhaps the co-ordinates from the VW Nav Companion can be stored in Outlook also?

Yes indeed, I have used that site quiet a few times to add destinations to my Columbus.

I don't know, I think this could be quite useful. I imagine there are many people using their cars for work who maintain their business contacts in Outlook (salesmen and field engineers to name 2).

I tried to do something like this, but couldn't get the VCFs to work with the Columbus as some of the information was missing.

I do use VWLABS occasionally, but it only works if the destination is found on google and you can't adjust the location.

So, I'd like to have a play with the macros if I may?

Thanks Nigel.

Same here I have 500 contacts in outlook that i was going to print and keep in the car ready for when I get on the road, I have them all in my TomTom as POI's

I looked at the VW labs, it's ok, but slow to load a lot of POI's, it's not much quicker than jotting down the postcodes I think, assuming my Columbus is going to come with 7 digit postcodes....

The "SD Destination" option on my Columbus is "greyed out" . Any ideas how I can activate this option?

You need to have a valid set of POIs on the SD card. I've also found it a bit temperamental, so you sometimes need to eject and re-insert the SD card when you have the "navigate to" screen up.

Thanks for your comment. I will try again. I was just trying to get some straight addresses on.

PS Bit disappointed to see you're using the name my kids call me! MrGrumpy indeed!

I'm sure I read somewhere on here that you need to have a single .mp3 file on the card to ensure that it's read, then the destinations can been found. Is this still the case?

It does seem that you need a token MP3 file in the root of the SD card

You cannot just import addresses by this mechanism, you must have the decimal Lat and Long coordinates in the GEO field

As some interest has been expressed I would post the files as attachments

If only I new how ??????/

Can you drop the code on pastebin.com (it's free) and post the link here?

Ok

For anyone interested the macro components are posted on

skoda.p-s-e.tk/Downloads ( NO WWW all case sensitive )

right click and "Save link as " choose some place on your machine

In outlook select tools -> macros -> Visual basic

import the macros .frm and .bas the ,frx will be automatically loaded

close the VBA editor

perhaps need to enable macros tools -> macros -> security

select tools -> macros -> macros and run the appropriate macro , use the load to Outlook first or the output to SD will crash with a zero result

I tested on outlook 2003 but I believe they will work with other versions

I will leave the web site open for a week or two

The coords need to be in decimal form.NOT deg minutes seconds

There are translation sites on the web, one has an excel solution to down load or you can do it yourself its just a few divides by 60 and a sum

Enjoy playing, adding features to suit your needs
