DSG Tiptronic mode disengaging (loss of drive). Fabia VRS TSI 180 11 plate.

Featured Replies

No the Fabia does not have "Auto Hold" only VAG models with Electric Handbrake have it. Auto Hold allows you to come to a stop and then remove your feet from the pedals and sit there until you are ready to pull away. If you are at a standstill for more than 5 minutes the car will release the hydraulic pressure and apply the Electric Handbrake. The system saves you having to keep your foot on the brake at traffic lights etc while in Drive.

The Fabia does have Hill Hold Control which is a system designed to stop you rolling back on hills

HHC is essentially the same thing as Auto Hold except it's for using when pulling off on a hill and only lasts a short, as stated by Stu, 2 seconds. I don't understand that anyway because as soon as you take your foot off the brake in an auto it rolls forwards? So why would you roll backwards on a hill? Everytime I pulled off on test drive it was lift brake, roll forward?

When you stop the car and you are In "D" Mode and you come to a stand and you apply the foot brake the revs drop to about 7500 rpm and then you release the brake the revs go back up to about 8000 rpm and the car starts to creep. When the revs drop has the Clutch Disengaged and the revs rise again has the clutch re-engaged.

Try it, It really does!!

But it doesn't do this if you are in Sport or Triptonic Mode...............WHY??

I really wish the Fabia had autohold as it really works well with the DSG, nothing easier than to pull up at the lights and just take your foot off the brake until you are ready to pull away and then just press the accelerator.

No need to sit on the brake and annoy those behind you and no need to select N or P and apply the handbrake. I find selecting N or P a pain as when the lights go green you have to put your foot on the brake, move into D, release the handbrake and apply the throttle.

VAG wont fit autohold to cars with a manual handbrake as AutoHold releases if the engine stops, you remove your seatbelt, or after 5 minutes or in the event of a system failure. In any of those situations the car puts on the Electric Handbrake and the car doesn't move but in cars with a manual handbrake the car would roll on a gradient.

That's why the Fabia is limited to a 2 second prevention of roll back.

hehe, I hope that is a typo Auric! otherwise you are giving your engine a really hard time.

The sport mode seems to increase the revs even when at idle, I assumed this was to give it more fuel and better performance. not sure about the clutched engaging or not though.

mmmmm......to many "0" me thinks :giggle:

Er because if you're sat in a queue of traffic at night with somebody in front standing on the brakes while waiting it's a lot brighter than just their tail lights which would be on if they used the handbrake instead? It's common bad driving practice by those with automatics and inconsiderate to those behind.

Couldn't agree more with this...put it in N at the lights and apply the handbrake. Your clutch(s) and the drivers behind will thank you! :-)

My wife has omly had one DSG glitch after hitting a large pothole...the box wouldn't shift down and was nearly stalling the engine..she tried the paddles..no response. After the car was turned off & on again it was fine & has been fine since.

From the Owners Manual

Stop

– The selector lever position N does not have to be selected when stopping just for

a short time, such as at a cross roads. It is absolutely sufficient to hold the stopped

vehicle stationary by depressing the foot brake. The engine can, however, be

allowed just to idle.

VW say OK to use foot brake in Drive at junctions and traffic lights. AutoHold will do this for 5 minutes before fully disengaging the clutch and sticking the handbrake on.

There's a study on line and they monitored DSG clutch temperature when on the brake in Drive and clutch temp didn't alter meaning the "At biting point" setting that is used for foot brake in Drive doesn't actually have the clutches in contact with the flywheel.

ive had this happen once. But put the cr back in park, and it was fine again.

What i would be interested to know is if any of you can hear the knock/click of the gear box disengaging when you go from D to N. I have thought mine was loud from new

I usually sit at lights with the handbrake on and select drive as soon as the lights change. I can hear the gearbox engage and disengage evry time but I don' think it;s a problem.
