All you VRS drivers ou there

Featured Replies

Do any of you find you attract the attention of the old bill more so than other cars you have owned?

I have been driving for 14 years and I have been stopped by the old bill once many moons ago as they saw me drive out of a pub car park (I had only popped in there to give someone something).

Since having the VRS I have been stopped twice in 4 months for spurious reasons, been asked if it was my car blah blah and let on my way.

Nope! I had a mk2 FRS in White with 350 bhp sounded like a rally car. Got stopped alot in that. Doesn't help that I look 18!!

I do seem to get followed a lot but I guess they are just checking, I don't do anything daft or exceed the speed limit very much really so they tend to just disappear again.

It would make sense for the police to associate any car that is cheap and fast with the sort of driver they want to rein in.

No. I don't have that problem.

I sometimes get mistaken for a police car (white car, roof bars on etc..) which can be amusing.

I do have it the other way too! I've lost count of the amount of times people slow down on the motorway if I pull out behind them.

Nearly 2.5 years of ownership, and I haven't been stopped once. In my youth I had a Sapphire Cosworth, one night I was boxed in by unmarked cars, at first I thought I was being carjacked until they identified themselves as plod. They then proceeded to search my car over the next hour at the roadside. Turns out the previous owner was a big time drug dealer.

The irony is, after 11 years as a Customs Officer searching all manner of road vehicles I now know there search was utterly pants, I could have hidden 50kg of smack in the car and they wouldn't of found it!!

Nah - I still say it's the driver and not the car.

I'm 35, don't drive like a **** on the roads and so simply have no "relationship" with the police.

In the 18 years I've been on the road I can account all of the times I've had anything to do with the police:

1 - A lot younger, stopped randomly during the Christmas anti drink/drive campaign - tested, no alcohol

2 - Witnessed a crash between a car and a coach

3 - Had my own accident on the A14 when I hit somebody from behind and made my car undriveable - police arrived to get me safely off the road

4 - When I used to have a second night job, police saw me pull-off from a forecourt (where I used to part) at 11:30pm and decided to pull me to check who I was

They are the only 4 times I've had anything to do with the police with regards driving in 18 years.

I got pulled over in my old MK1 vRS late at night. The police actually raced down the road after me with flashing lights and siren on then proceeded to skid their car to a halt in front of me blocking the road. All very dramatic and I was asked if it was my car and had to produce ID. They apologised, said there had been a increase in thefts of high performance cars in the area and sent me on my way. I didn't really count my car as high performance but they obviously did. Funnily enough they were driving a standard Octavia with Police decals.

I got followed home late at night after finishing work so I took them on a jolly joy ride, went round the rounderbout near home twice, then doubled back and went round it twice more. They gave up in the end so I went home feeling rather smug B)

I was hoping they were going to stop me as I was in the Wife's Mk 2 Fabia Vrs and it looked like it has fogs on

Fogs what fogs, it don't have them officer

I agree it's more the driver than the car. How old are you dare I ask?

I got the VRS when I was 31 and plod have never looked twice at me. Neither do the Halfords Saxo/Corsa crew something I'm eternally grateful for.

I've never been stopped by plod, ever (touch wood).

When I was at Uni (19-23) I used to regularly drive my Dad's company 318 and I was followed by plod on more than a few occasions. Again an age thing I think.

I thinks it's a combo of car and driver... When I was 19 and driving my mum's GTI I was stopped a lot, but when I was driving my dads Scorpio I got a lot of double takes but was never stopped... Obviously, it was assumed I'd stolen the GTi but the Scorpio was obviously the old mans motor...

Only been stopped once since owning the vRS but I was speeding at the time... Got a rollocking and a "slow down" from the copper and was sent on my way (right after he mentioned how impressed he was at the acceleration of my car at that speed....). However, that is why I prefer coppers to traffic cameras... the vast majority of traffic police are decent people and if you prove to them you were paying attention they would rather not do the paperwork and just give you a warning...

I'm 31!!

Not at all - I see many cars of our type whilst at work. People get stopped because of how they drive, not what they drive.

Unless of course, it's a shed on wheels.

I was driving steadily through a 40mph zone when the police decided to follow me, no erratic driving at all but they still decided to pull me over.

That could depend on all manner of reasons - you dont need to be driving badly.

I wouldn't be offended by it - the amount of people who get stopped and turn out to have no insurance is unreal. When you think what that could mean if they and you had an accident, you could lose everything.

I like the Police. I always wave to them. They are nice people.

I'm 31!!

Oh right. You must just look dodgy

I was 33 when I got pulled over, I didn't mind but thought the drama they created was a bit OTT

Yes my missus did on the A69 from Newcastle to Carlisle. But she was doing a ton when she "Noticed that some idiot in a blue Volvo was following her so she just kept going". Then said idiot put his blue flashers on and pulled her for speeding. During her warning he commented how she slowed down for the speed cameras. He then showed her the video which showed him nearly getting wiped out by a truck trying to catch her. So he didn't fine her.

I've never been stopped in any of my cars bar the Toledo on New Year's Day but they were stopping everyone (checking for alcohol, condition of car etc.) so that doesn't really count. Unfortunately I have noticed a lot more people don't seem to see the car though which is not good.

same here too, its rather funny.

*touchwood* never been pulled or stopped in either of my vRS be it fabia or octavia (probably tempted fate now!!)

Cars I have had issues with the police are when I've been running older cars such as my polo, pug 306, rover 220 and I was once pulled, no surrounded by 4 police cars in my SAAB 900 classic.......case of mistaken idenity though (didn't get a single sorry from the police).

Maybe your area have had a few stolen or a few drivers that are noobs.

Been stopped once in the vrs but that was a checkpoint due to the increased dissident threat here in N.I.

They move even quicker if you give em a quick flash of the headlights LOL :)

Not been stopped since I had my metro however many years ago that was.
