When he got out of the car he looked a bit shaken...I asked him what's the matter.....his reply was "errr, it's a bit quick isn't it?..

So the skoda salesman who is probably well used to ragging around in 200BHp Octy vRS etc was "shaken" by the sheer rapid acceleration of a 1.4 Fabia which with its mods might be developing in the region of 105Bhp?! :wonder:

I know I don't have "dyno plots".....but if you look into the mechanical advantages of the mods, what the manufactures say you get extra, and a few of my friends do rallying...then you would understand that a conservative figure of 115bhp to 120 bhp is more like it. If you also looked into the mods you would also understand that the engine would be allot more responsive than standard, so the 0-60 time drops a bit, with the in gear time dropping as well. Maybe around a second or so on each. Oh...and to finish on..when I spoke to several tuning firms about "chips" which give +10bhp..they asked what I had allready done....they all said "no point getting a chip/remap as you'll be getting more out with those mods"!! :p B)

Sorry but ha ha....it's rare any normally aspirated car would shock anyone acceleration wise as the power is delivered so linearly.

Never heard of early BMW M3 engines then???? Or how about the McL' F1 car then??? All nat' asp'....and the acceleration is pretty epic in those from people say!!!

The point of the quote was that my car when compared to a standard version...is and feels quicker....thats why he was a bit shaken...because it responded alot faster than he was expecting!!! I have driven a standard version....and it does feel as if I'm "waiting" compared to mine!

But outright speed in a straight line is not of maximum importance....you would have difficulty in keeping up with me down the back roads to Aviemore...the reason being that I know the road very well....I have the cars handling set-up exactly how I like it...and I'm a fairly safe driver (one accident in extreme winter conditions 11 years ago....only accident in 17years). Plus when I have been having fun on the back roads...I've had alot of big Audis, Mini Coopers, etc try to keep up with me....around the bends...no way..they all end up going wide (understeer)....they then get a bit ****ed off and on the very long straights yes they can overtake me, with them usually doing excessive speed.....then I end up catching them up on the twists and turns again!!! Yes they are pretty rare cars...hence why I said it's pretty rare.

Or would you say that these nat asp cars are slow???

Some Caterhams??

Any VAG car with the V6 engine, say Golf R32 MK4, or MK3?

Early VW Golfs with 16v engines??

Peugeot 106 Rally???

Renult Clio, Sport, Cup, 200, etc versions???

Ford Puma???

VW Lupo GTI???

Honda Civic type R???

Quite a few Jag's????

BMW M5 (early)

TRV's such as Griffith, Cerbera, Tuscan, Sagaris, Typhon, etc??

Most Lotus cars??

Most Lambo's ??

Pagani??

Morgan??

Quite a few Ferrari's???

Some very quick Mercs???

Aston Martins???

If you decide to dig even further you will find that there are alot more fast nat' asp' cars made by mainstream manufacturers than you think!!!! B)

EDIT;

I keep finding more cars!! :giggle:

what they mean is N/A engines give very little gains even with chips and bolt on mods unless you start changing cams and manifolds etc at horrensous expense. adding an exhaust and intake will not give you a second of your 0-62 at all. Id wager that every octavia vRS (petrol or diesel)or the fabia vRS, or the 1.8TSI yeti's, roomsters will all have quicker 0-60s than yours could dream of, and the fact that they have forced induction engines, mean they would absolutely annihilate your in gear times. So i cant imagine how anyone could be 'shocked or shaken' at the speed of a N/A 1.4.

Also how do manage to compare all of the cars aboce to yours. the only comparison is the normally aspirated engine. for a N/A engine to be quick it needs lots of cubic capacity, extra cylinders, very high revs etc.

106Rallye weighed hardly anything and went round bends well, thats why its quick. same goes for the clios. stick them ina straight line and they are not that quick at all especially in gear acceleration. and pretty much everything else has huge cubic capacity and extra cylinders compared to yours.

What i find is that loads of people i know think that their cars are really quick when in fact they are not. its all dependant on what your have had before or expeirienced, but until they try a car that is really quick they just have no idea. Hence why when i first test drove and bought the furby vRS it felt gutless, because i have had much quicker cars in the past.

Agreed...I test drove a good few Clio 197's before buying my vRS and yes they have more bhp but I was completely underwhelmed...in a straight line they didn't really feel that fast at all.

Same goes for the R32 golf...test drove a MkV R32 and was soo disappointed (well except for the noise! :)).

To janner-Sy

You've missed the points in my posts!

"""The point of the quote was that my car when compared to a standard version...is and feels quicker....thats why he was a bit shaken.....because it responded alot faster than he was expecting!!! I have driven a standard version....and it does feel as if I'm "waiting" compared to mine!

"""when I spoke to several tuning firms about "chips" which give +10bhp..they asked what I had allready done....they all said "no point getting a chip/remap as you'll be getting more out with those mods"!!"""

I hope the engines that you talk about can beat mine in a straight line....if they can't the there's something wrong with their engines!!!

Again as I stated in my post:

"""I've had alot of big Audis, Mini Coopers, etc try to keep up with me....around the bends...no way..they all end up going wide (understeer)....they then get a bit ****ed off and on the very long straights yes they can overtake me, with them usually doing excessive speed.....then I end up catching them up on the twists and turns again""""

Ohhhh....and I do know what a fast car feels like on the roads up here.....mate of mine took me for a drive in his Subaru P1...tuned to 335bhp...with dyno plots......try catching one of those.....and he is a good driver...his dad did rallying and taught him!!!! :p
