didn't last long

only had the car since the end of january but thanks to petrol and insurance prices for my missus i dont think i can keep the vrs when her car takes £30 a month petrol and £20 tax for the year.

looks like pedal power for me to work for a while

Sorry to hear that. Sadly you will not be the last. The VRS is a pretty cheap to run car, but petrol prices are hurting and car tax too on these cars isn't cheap and should really be looked at, as people owning 10 year old cars are not typically people with a lot of spare money, so nearly £250 a year on top for tax is painful.

As for insurance, the prices reflect the volume and amount of claims that people are making with an ever increasing % of our premium covering fraudsters and those who choose to bypass insurance altogether and let the rest of the responsible drivers to foot the bill.

Good luck and hope you'll be back in a vrs soon. At least you'll be fitter.

Just tighten your belt elsewhere, cut down on booze, cigarettes, whatever.

we've just had her renewal through on here car and they wanted over £900, she has 4 years no claim and its up every year for those 4 years!!! was only £600 when we got it 4years ago and she was a leaner add to that she's in uni so doesn't get alot cash in, house 2 kids utilities are goin up soon i know deep down its gonna have to go. then my tax is due and i need at least £30 a week and a half in motion lotion.

if you think about it this way 2 cars, 1 is £20 for 12months tax and the other is £145 for 6, 1 is takin twice as much pertol

you need to shop around for insurance - me and missus fully comp is well under £250

I feel your pain!!

I'm in the middle of a divorce, have only just kept the car in all of it and have been forced to move back into the parents. You would think this should mean I'm a rich man but I'm scared to put my foot down at all when driving anywhere. Doesnt help when all my mates don't drive or have tiny cars (group outings automatically done in my car).

I swear petrol goes up by £5-10 per tank everytime I fill up!! On top of that, we have the expensive car tax, and extortionate insurance. A mechanically standard vRS (only tints) and I'm now paying £140 a month (£80 before I moved) at the grand old age of 25 with 6 years NCB and a clean license!!

If you have any nice bits and want to swap for std before you sell, let me know!

Jez £900

It is true the insurance seems to go up every year. I change insurance company every year like a mobile as it does not pay to stay. There is no loyalty that insurance companies give you discount for. I paid £317 per year last year with Kwik Fit they wanted £640 this year. I searched and got Hastings Direct for £350.

Me neither. When did you get this price, as in the past few months month insurers have revised their prices (upwards) :(

I am 35 with full ncb, last year I had a Citroen Picasso 1.6, was paying £24 a month with Swintons, to renew this year was £48 a month which shows how much it has risen, I shopped around and they were still the cheapest, so I sold it and got the VRS which is costing me £51 a month, mad mad world that it is only £3 a month more.

I am lucky and only do around 3000miles a year so petrol is not so much of an issue.

No, I would count yourself lucky. Thats with protected NCB and mods.

I feel for you! :'(

Really isn't fair is it!!!

In Ireland, it is €514 to tax this car, and the roads have not been touched for the past few years.

Also with petrol at 1.52 per liter things aint cheap! All round bad times!

swiftcover, but then i'm pretty low risk and live in the sticks

I also feel your pain  as I have recently had to sell mine due to fast rising fuel prices and tax, being 21 and having a VRS at this moment in time is not good! I was paying £133 per month for insurance.

My INS went up to £760 from last years £500!

Managed to swap companies and get it for £440 fully comp for me and our gert with 5 yrs no claims! Pretty crazy

Just had a quote on my 30yr old xr4i and they £200 TPFT 
