How Long - From order to delivery?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Not happy at the moment ordered my Superb Combi 170 CR 4x4 in Jan for pick up on 29 Jul just been told today that the car still hasn't been issued a build week yet and i may not get the car until Oct - Nov time. I may consider cancelling the order this is just to long to wait i already have a Superb Combi 170 CR it is a great car but almost a year to build it as i am now losing trade in value on my current Superb. What can i do about this as i feel i have been lead down the garden path with the delivery date and there is no guartee for the delivery date being as soon as Oct - Nov.

I don't see why you should lose out on part ex value if it isn't your fault? The dealer should swallow the depreciation, IMO.

My dealer worked out everything based on value and mileage in 12 weeks time, any delay is out of the dealers pocket.

Hi all

Its not the dealers fault he just sells the car and just passes on the delivery time given to him by Skoda. Skoda are the one who are taking the orders knowing full well that the delivery time they are giving are not it touch with the factory build time. At the moment almost every car maker are blaming delays on Japan and the earthquake.

I heartily concur with you about the failings of Skoda. My own order is way past deadline, also for a 4x4 and, promised for April then .... July, I suspect the car will have the new plate. (I ordered in December.)

Just been given an updated delivery to dealer date: 6th September for 4x4 Elegance Combi. Ordered 21st December 2010. I would not have bothered had I known. I'm not a one car man by any means. Still, new plate, got my holidays in between and absence makes the heart grow fonder.

The cars have same specifications (Superb Elegance combi CR170 4x4 with various options ) and have both the same build week : 43.

More of that one order (of the @GWR4936 )is from uk and mine is from Romania.

I think is obvious that they build the cars in batches by some car specification in this case (170 hp engine with 4x4. and maybe can be the sunroof also).

My build week was changed from 43 to 38.

@GWR4936 on your order is same ?

Just come back from holiday & spoke to dealer. Forecast build week has disappeared, there is now no week number on Skoda system. Dealer has spoken to Skoda UK who say that they cannot help but build date should appear again soon!

Skoda build programme is a complete lottery and farce. I am thinking of cancelling order if a date does not reappear soon.

I have just spent an hour with the dealer who has told me that Skoda UK has said that it is unlikely that car will be built before 2012! Skoda UK has given him no reason for estimated build week suddenly changing from wk 38 to no date. I am now starting to look at alternatives as I cannot afford to loose at least another 3 months trade in value as dealer refuses to hold trade in value beyond beginning of October.

Is anyone else out there in Briskoda land in same position and what have they done about it other than cancel order.

This dealer not holding trade-in value is a little confusing to me.

Maybe somebody will come along and confirm/deny legality of the situation.

However as fas as I know - you will have signed an order and also confirmation on the trade-in value of your vehicle, usually based on a time in the future.

When I bought my new Octy he said he was giving me a trade-in price on my current car based on 6 weeks time.

Now through no fault of your own your car has been delayed. This is not your fault and not something you could forsee.

Now maybe the dealer also shouldn't be out of pocket, but at the same time that is a discussion for your dealer to have with Skoda UK.

Your trade-in price should stand no matter how long you have to wait and if the dealership is worried about devaluation they should supply you with a loan vehicle.

If you want to wait for the Superb I'd be so tempted to contact Skoda UK and explain that the dealer is attempting to "change the deal you made" with regards trade-in value and see what they have to say.

This is an example (lifted directly from my Skoda order) of a standard feature in the fine print when you take out a contract of sale with the dealer and usually appears on the back of your copy of the order...

If delivery of your goods is delayed through no fault of ours we will deduct an amount for depreciation of your used motor vehicle. This amount is calculated as exceeding 2.5% of the agreed value of your used motor vehicle for each complete 30 day period. The time begins 30 days after the estimated delivery date and ends on delivery of your used motor vehicle to us.

This "no fault of ours" means the dealership - not Skoda. I had a similar experience with Renault many moons ago. The car I ordered took 7 months instead of the predicted 10 weeks. When I threatened to cancel the order because of the increased loss on the p/x value they "juggled the figures" so that I still paid in cash what I would have paid had it arrived on schedule.

Hope this helps clarify

@GWR4936 i just talk with my dealer and my order remains as it was 1 week ago .. expected to be delivered in week 38.

I hope to solve the problem with skoda.. what can i say, i don't know how is it to wait another 6 months for this car,

but, in case they say that the car will not be build , i don't know what car to choose instead :D

I must admit that although I do tend to read small-print, that isn't a part I picked up on :)

I think I was quite lucky - my Octy vRS (with options) took 6 weeks from ordering to delivery.

I do however know that if there had been a delay that had seen my trade-in drop in value I would have threatened to walk - see if that stired them into sorting things out :)

Hi all. I placed my order for a Greenline Estate in Black Magic on 15 April, as a lease car through the dealer. Was told at the time delivery would be no problem before my current lease finishes in mid September! I finally got a build date of December yesterday!! Am now thinking of changing to a hatchback in another colour, or should I just wait?????

If you're leasing it through the dealer then can they not supply you with a loan car in the intermediate?

It is not your fault that the delivery date has been put back and you ordered the car in good time.

Elegance 4x4 CR140 DSG Estate almost fully loaded. ordered in January, expected delivery October.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well pee'd off!!

Just checked online portal for lease company and delivery estimate put back to mid December (ordered May).

Emailed them and now told dealer has no confirmed build date!!!! FFS

Seriously dispondant now, regret ordering now. Octavia has gone back and am in high CO2 Audi, which I was happy to have for about 2 months on original delivery of October, but not now with no build date.

Have suggested to lease company that they provide me with similar spec Superb in the interim to at least get my tax to the right level.

What a crap week - son broke his arm, been stuck in 3 accidents on M1 and now this!

Happy Days

Would this suggest that other markets are more lucrative for Skoda, so the UK only really gets supplied in the quieter times in the factory?

Could well do Supurbia - I wouldn't have minded the December delivery if it was confirmed but seeing as the dealer doesn't have a build date yet this is likely to slip again and again.

Think Skoda UK need to take a long hard look at themselves and sort this problem out, across the range.

Audi did a similar thing last year when they pushed lead times out to make them "more" desirable, in fact the leadtimes went completely the wrong way and it really hit their business hard. Audi have since apologised and vowed to get their leadtimes back under control. I know a colleague who was ordered a well spec'd A3 and it took over 12 months - similar cars are now back to 4-5 months. Not ideal but at least going in the right direction.

If I'd have know the delay would be this long then I would have gone for a new Passat or SEAT Exeo. I did expect a longish wait but this is stupid.

Passat has about 8-13 months delivery time here in Sweden...

I agree. My 2.0 140 TDI SE estate was ordered in February. The last I heard was that it might turn up in October. It will have to be mightily impressive for me even to consider ordering another Skoda in the future. The Mondeo was so good I often wonder why I didn't just go for another one of those. I am now tooling around in an 80,000 mile 2008 Golf 1.9 PD TDI pool car, which is like driving a dumper truck. Not impressed with VAG at the moment.

Ordered my totally standard 2.0 TDI 140 DSG SE Hatch on 14th March and collected yesterday 20th August, so more or less 6 months.

Slightly longer than hoped but Skoda were open enough about the reasons and I'm so pleased with the car already that I really don't mind.

I'd say this is 5 months, but hey - that's me .. :)

Ah. Yes, so would I actually. :giggle:
