Retainagroup And The International Security Register

Featured Replies

Received today a letter from the Retainagroup with regards to change of ownership and the owner details in the 'International Security Register'. All my windows (and I'm sure everyone of you has this as well) have some security number etched on it and a phone number belonging to the aforementioned company. For them to change the owner details they charge a one off fee of

I'll be interested to hear too - despite several reminders I have so far ignored them.

I have this too, but I understood it was free as the car is new and unregistered. Of course, if they choose to request money then I now where the nearest lake they can jump in is.

Cheers

Possibly free when you buy a new car, but as I bought mine 2nd user I guess 'administration' costs are involved. I did a bit more searching and it seems a reputable company, with about 14 manufacturers using them.

Q.

Well,

Acording to the bumf with my RS its an attempt to avoid fraud and other things like detering thieves. If you attempt to sell your car on later to another car dealer, they can check with the register to see if you are the recorded owner, check mileage etc...

If stolen you can call them, and it will be flagged as such.

If it comes back different they could think it suspicious. They also hold other details of the vehicle which I wont post here. The fee for changing owner details on my documentation is

I think they wanted

I was a bit doubtful at first about ISR, but as it came "free" with the car when it was new, I didn't have anything to lose.

It probably isn't much good for the current owner - as Nick says, it won't get your car back if it's stolen - but strikes me as a good security measure if you're buying second hand.

I also got some info in the handbook pack with my new car... havent reads it...not going to.. waste of time..

shot gun, big scary animal (wife), and baseball bat... far more effective ways of hanging on to the car;)

I was happy to pay the

None of this was explained in the renewal paperwork that came with the demand for money. If they marketed themselves better they might have had a deal. However I still maintain that I get nothing for the money.

good luck with swmbo/02..

im of the opinion that 20 quid on a crook lock is more likely to stop the car becoming stolen ....i.e. better than 20 quid to find it if it is..

.. Agree - ive already got the crooklock and am thinking of borrowing my parents Rottie and Shepherd on a permanent basis - does anyone know of anyone with experience of electrifying cars??? Paranoid me ... who . .. where??? ;)

Denis? Who's he? The number 2 poster on here?

Jon is running out of ideas for bumping his score up with gratuitous posts so how about some suggestions for future topics for him? But remember that they need to be simple cut-and-paste jobbers so that minimal effort and no brainpower is involved. Recipes? Pictures of beer mats? Pictures of cars? rolleyes.gif

And how about suitable (or even unsuitable) names for Jon? I think The Joker just about fits.
