Making best use of MDI

Featured Replies

Ok so I bought the MDI option , but now wonder what to use it for. I had wrongly assumed that the Superb did not have the Aux In 3.5m Jack in the arm rest box so I can use that anyway to connect my phone for music etc.

Therefore I have the MDI and have no real idea how to make reall use of it . What do folks use it for and do is the arm rest box the standard location I had read somewhere it was the glove compartment. So what fits in the arm rest box that can make use of the MDI and do any of you use the MINI USB cable that I was given?????

Full control of an iPod is what Plan to use it for...at least u got a cable foc... I'm fighting with supplying dealer to get an iPod one...cheap feckers....

I use mine for my ipod, as I can control it through the head unit and steering wheel controls. Had to buy the lead, but got it at a discount and it was cheaper than the BMW ipod lead.

As for the mini usb, it may fit other mp3 players or possibly smart phones.

You can plug a self powered external PC HDD into the mini USB connector, and have 1TB of music on it if you want, should be much more flexible than the ipod and you can just leave it in the car all the time.

As far as I know you can use your mini usb on a 2.5inch harddrive, so adding a ton of hard drive space, should keep you going for a few months without hearing the same track twice!

This is what I intend to use my MDI interface for, when the car finally arives that is........

Sounds great ... is anyone actually using an HDD with MDI yet and is there any delay when it switches on, reading the folder structure of thousands of files? And what about supported file formats, I have mainly ipod files, what about these, are they all compatible?

File Format

MP3

AAC

WMA

AIFF**

WAV**

M4A

M4P

Thanks guys,

Ah I have something like that that has music and video on.

Music is MP3 and WMA.

Video MP4 mainly.

Maybe one could play these over the screen when stopped, might help to pass time on long waits for delayed passengers etc. I could always watch The Wire and Band of Brother yet again. :wonder:

Sadly its audio only, and MP3 / WMA from an external HDD. The columbus does not read the whole structture when powered up and reads the folders as you select them in the menu so there is no delay at all.
