Damp patch :(

Featured Replies

Hi my lovely vrs SE has a problem :(

was just checking my tyre pressures and when I was doing the drivers side front tyre I noticed a small patch of fluid around the bottom of the engine cover, it's only a very small patch and there is no sign of any coolant, oil or other fluids disappearing from their bottlles. When I've looked in the trusty Haynes manuel it says the turbo intercooler is located in this area of the car. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers dan

if its only a little bit and the car is running fine, then dont worry about it. That area is open to the elements, so what you are looking at may not have even come from the car.

I'm praying so! When I've crawled under the car there's something with a gaitor type cover over it seeping a bit, looks a bit like a hoover hose! Forgive my rubbish technical insights!

it'll be from the air con I'd imagine.

nothing to worry about

Nothing to worry about, there is a small cut out on the undertray for the intercooler pipe at a join so it is normall to find a bit of oil there, if there is a noticable patch on the floor i would be more concerned!

yeah it prob abit of oil from the intercooler pipe i got it on mine too

mystery solved! I was more or less right, it's a worn seal on the turbo intercooler pipe, getting sorted next week. They also spotted that the dreaded console bushes are shot so they're getting done under warranty, phew!

well done benfield skoda newcastle!

You have a good dealer there, Central Skoda told me where to go when my bushes failed, and Skoda UK did the same.

Well, d day has been and gone (not well!), took my car back to the main dealer to get the turbo intercooler seal mended and the bushes done, strolled into town to kill some time when I received a call saying guess what?

1) the bushes weren't covered by the warranty, that'll be £202 please

&

2) the seal I had took the car in to get fixed hadn't been ordered so they couldn't fix it that day, aaaaah!

Full of hell back to the dealers where the young lad whispered he'd do a discount for the trouble, I asked what the discount was when the chap next to him said he couldn't!

Rang the warranty company, no joy even though I've only had the car 7 months, rang the Benfield dealer in Carlisle who went on a charm offensive until I said I'd asked the salesman re the bushes on the day of purchase at which point he asked if I had video evidence of our conversation!

All in all, pretty poor, so I'm off to a good old fashioned independent garage, lesson learnt - don't trust car salesmen.

Here endeth the rant!

I learned the hard way with warranties. I had an Octavia which had a common problem with the under-seat airbag wiring. This wasn't covered by the Skoda dealer warranty, because it doesn't cover 'wiring'. That's right, the 'comprehensive' warranty excludes wiring which, is probably half the car! Including diagnostic costs, it took 3 trips, several angry phone calls and ended up costing me £150 for a little bit of wire and soldering and resetting the light - and that was with a 'good will' discount as I went mental and we have several Skodas in the family.

I probably could've got the whole thing done for an hours labour, in one trip, at the independant VAG specialist I usually use which would have been £40. 9 times out of 10, warranties are not worth the paper they are written on! Normally I wouldn't have dreamed of using the dealer - I only went because of the warranty. I learned the hard way!

oh no, it sounds annoyingly similar, if it didn't waste so much time and cost so much you wouldn't fuss. Highlight of my phone call was when I was saying the salesman had told me the console bushes had been replaced, the chap today challenged me by asking for evidence of this conversation, when I asked what sort of evidence he calmly said....video or a signed statement! hmmm!Must ask, have you stuck with skoda since your faff on?
