Bluray Player

Featured Replies

Morning all :)

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced bluray player that will play all file formats, like AVI and VOB? My three year old Sony wont play them and neither will my old reliable "play all" phillips!! The only other option would be to see if i can get my hands on a used PS3!!

Cheers

Kit :)

Get your hands on a PS3.

The best all round Bluray / Media centre player at the moment for the price, even if you don't use it for games/internet.

And it can play Avi and VOB files natively straight out of the box

agree with the ps3 too, plays all my shop bought blu rays fine, plus my, other acquired blu rays!

I have a philips blu-ray player cost under £100 and play blu-rays fine, also plays some files via USB memory stick. A PS3 will work, but is probably overkill and may not fit in with the rest of your kit as it is primary function is a games console.

The PS3 has been recommended by a mate as well but as said above it doesnt really fit with what i have set up...space is limited!! Plus a PS3 over here is about 400 euro!! even second hand they're about 250!!

I recommend the Sony S570. Wifi connection to interweb with all the usual Sony Portal stuff (iplayer, Ch5 You Tube etc) as well as a great streamer (wireless video and audio). Super slimline, it also loads Blu Rays really quickly as I believe it has 1gb of RAM available. It has recently been replaced by the 580, but as it won just about every test it was entered into and has awards thrown at it left right and centre, it is safe to assume it is superb. I love mine and I believe it is a better BluRay player than the PS.It also does 3 D and you can play off flash drives too.

I haven't got my handbook with me :D but it will play '.avi' files, although I didn't think it would play VOB?

I think they are going for about £170 new, but I would haggle on that

If you don't want to spend £170 on a Sony 570, try the 370 which is about £90. It doesn't do 3D or have built in wi-fi, but there's not much else that's different and it still has a USB socket on the front.
