GAP insurance

Featured Replies

Anyone got any advice on what to get and who to go with? I have a 6 weeks old vrs and need to get the gap sorted quickly. Thanks

Rti gap. Have a look on click4gap

You need to certainly hurry up.

Most GAP insurance can only be taken out within 45 days of purchase.

Because I got the vat free deal would it make more sense to go with vehicle replacement?

Tough one.

Read the full T&C's and make sure you will get a brand new car.

I went for "back to invoice" on my new Octy.

So I'll get back to what I paid for the vehicle.

If there is no discount in the region of "VAT Free" I could end up finding it difficult to replace with a brand new vehicle.

Once you get past say the first year, then back to invoice will make more sense - as invoice price in a years time should get you another 1yr old vehicle.

In the end I went for 4yrs back to invoice - can't for the life of me remember which firm it was, but it was only around £190.

Ok I'l have a read. Now I've had a brand new car I can't see me going to a used car. What a snob! Unless it was a Nissan gtr.

Yep.

I ordered mine before the end of last year. Since then the VAT fre offer has ended and there has been a price rise, meaning I'd have to pay £4500 more to buy the same car today (assuming I didn't get a discount like I did when I first bought it :p )

Seems pointless to me to buy GAP cover which won't allow you to get a brand new equivalent model.

Your insurance is there to provide you with the cash to get a replacement car which is the same as the one you crashed.

The point in GAP is to allow you to replace it with a brand new one (in my case anyway as the finance negative equity part doesn't apply).

Normally return to invoice is all you'd need to do that, but with the awesome deals which most of us took advantage of now finished, we need the 'replacement car' GAP.

Do a google search and you'll find most are similar prices.

I used EasyGap as they had good prices and seemed decent but I haven't had to claim so no idea if they're actually any good!

Don't bother with it!

Biggest rip off going!!

I always thought that if the car gets written off in the first year your normal car insurance will replace with a new car which kind of makes Gap insurance for the first year a little pointless.

Not all insurers do that apparently. The Admiral group (so Admiral, Bell, Elephant, Diamond etc) definitely do not.

Plus, even if they do, they will give you what you paid for it. So in my case I'd be £4500 short of being able to get a new one and to be honest, would be lucky to get one as new as mine.

If you think it's a rip off then that's your opinion and you are entitled to it, but I personally think that the piece of mind of knowing that if my car is written off in the next three years I'll get a brand new one the same is well worth £200.

agreed stevo.

I found a quote for 199 for vehicle replacement for 4 years cover with a claim limit of 10k sounds good to me. This is with the link you posted above, sounds ok to me

Looks like most companies exclude modified cars, anyone know of a gap insurer that will cover a modified car?
