Obvious questions....

What version of VCDS you running? Have you cycled through the COM ports to make sure it definitely is connecting?? You may also need to change the COM port associated with the USB - Serial connector.

You say you have set the program to USB, but you have said you have a Comm port lead, so you need to find what comm port it is using, and then set the program to that comm port(to find what comm port, go into "device manager" and look what port it has allocated) You will need to plug in the adapter !

and the other thing, I don't think version 10 will run with a ebay special, as you need to register the lead with Ross Tech

Surely you only use 10.6.4 with a genuine ross-tech lead? Obviously that is USB lead - mine works fine. Just upgraded mine to 10.6.4 from 10.6.3 and it was dead easy.

the cable i am using is a gendan diagnostic vcds if that any help, thanks.

the cable he is using is a gendan diagnotic vcds, thanks.

believe it the VCDS(VAG-COM) K11-USB Interface Package,cheers.

What car is it being used on, as that setup won't read post 2004 cars? The HEX-USB + CAN package is the one which works on all cars.
