Lada Niva

Featured Replies

Lada Niva available in the UK again for around £11k.

Has been for a while I thought.

The importer lives in South London and has had one outside his house for some time.

It's the demonstrator and the one James May did a test on.

Wow, the 'Boss snow plough' listed as an accessory looks pretty awsome, wonder if it would fit the front of the Yeti. I want one :p

The Niva has separate controls for its 5 gears, low range and differential lock.

i'll bet that makes gear changes fun!

Drove one of those years ago. It's quite comfortable - for a tractor! :giggle:

'aerodynamically efficient front indicators' well that's alright then

In the rough they are tough, they were really well rated by those in the know, did I see somewhere that they had basically the same suspension set up as a Range Rover?

Therefore good.

Anyway I would have had one in times gone by but they never done a diesel.

Whilst we are talking about the Niva, I am wondering what you think about the Dacia Duster? (due next year)

Better looking than a Yeti :)

Better looking than a Yeti :)

Beat me too it!

But then again, what isn't? :D

Disappointed as I thought this was a new version.

I know they're tough, but such an old design.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ;)

Thing is, with Skoda it's a VAG product.

With Dacia it's going to be a Renault product? err.. no thanks.

Not much beats a Niva off road to be honest, and if you want a workhorse to treat like crap, you can't go wrong. When you think how much the basic Defender 90 is now, that will buy you 2 Nivas and probably give you a bit of change. Niva's are also as complex as mud, unlike the current Defender with it's Transit TDCi engine.

I assume they are not going to be sold in the UK?

The van versions only 8.5k, struggle to get a small 2wd van for that

They are awesome offroad!

Skinny tall tyres, huge ground clearance (more than a Nissan Patrol), short wheelbase, centre and rear lockers, solid rear axle, low ratio gearbox. Awesome little cars!

I reckon we should have a Lada franchise here at Allams!!

Van version is 8.5k + VAT! So 12k in todays money... still cheap though. Would make a good snow/bad weather vehicle in NATO colours :D

When I was based on site a few years ago (Civil Engineer) I considered buying an old one as a get-about since they were so good off-road. Got a Landie 90 supplied by the Contractor instead...

Lada doesn't even get listed as a manufacturer on the Euro NCAP website :x

Then again, neither do tractor manufacturers

Low Average Emissions matter to them not a jot.

Deaths or life changing injuries of those in a Niva or caused by being hit by a Niva in the UK must be pretty low.

More choice in affordable work vehicles to buy not rent is needed for people who work hard to earn money and do not have the Tax Payers via HMRC help them swan around in 4x4'ss that never have to leave asphalt.

As a big fan of the Niva, I am happy to report I have seen one in a trailer for the new series of Top Gear :)
