Tyres for a VRS

Featured Replies

Getting a new Octavia VRS tomorrow.

I read on here (but can't find it now) when doing some pre buying research about some cars coming with Dunlops and others with Continentals.

Dealer has said my car has the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT fitted.

Is there any preference of those in the know as to the Dunlops or Continentals?

Thanks in advance

Conti's all the way - Dunlops haven't got one decent review on here.

Enjoy your new car, just keep a close eye on rear tyre inner tread wear.

This is worth searching on here , lots of threads and comments , concensus say dunlops wear the inside edges on the rear very very quickly , i have falkens on mine and am happy , price is very good too

Probably too late now but you shouldn't have accepted the car with Dunlop's on!! Or at least not until the Dealer had done a full geometery check!

Ring SUK Customer Services and ask for John Good, (Manager) and he will tell you Dunlop's are not recommended!! Mind he won't tell you what tyres to put on, and neither will he tell you its a car alignment issue!!

Here is the link to the topic about what you can expect by having Dunlops/Bridgestones on!!

ENJOY!!

Thanks very much for the replies.

I asked the dealer about the Dunlops via email yesterday and he said they had heard of no problems with them.

The above information is brilliant and thanks again to everyone. I am going to email the dealer now before setting off on the long drive to collect.

As soon as I heard there was a potential problem with the Dunlop's I just assumed that is what would be on my new Octy - what with my luck and all.

So I was very surprised and very pleased to find I've got Continentals which I'm finding great.

So impressed that I think it will take a lot to make me want to switch brand in the future.

Hi, all. Does anyone know if this Dunlop/rear geometry problem applies to the Scout? Or if, perhaps, the Scout does not have Dunlops from factory???

Just collected my new vRS TFSI at lunch and thankfully it's running Conti's!

I disliked the Dunlops ever since a few exiting moments in heavy rain in my old vRS (diesel). Anyone here from the South remember rain?

Other new plus points: new radio reads SD quick and the sunset tint has got a bit darker. Goes well with Antracite :-))

Nice result overall then!

Mine came with Contis on and they were crap. Very noisy, poor wet grip and not very durable. Glad when they ran out. But they don't sawtooth.

Always seems to get mentioned with the sports suspension and vRS rather than the standard one.

everyones entitled to opinions but these tyres have won too many tests to be crap.

And the Dunlops that came on mine won tests too and I've not met anyone in the real world with a good word to say about them....

Interesting that some people also don't rate the Conti's - so what are you running?

I sent the dealer an email and a link to the thread on here re the Dunlops, they had another VRS in stock so took the wheels shod with Conti's off that car and swapped them ver for the ones on my car.

So just home, brand new Octy VRS on the drive and a smile on my face.

The Dunlops are carp, noisy n prone to premature wear and saw toothing. The Conti's are quieter last longer and seem less prone to sawtoothing.

I'm running Vredestein. Miles better grip, quieter and great in the wet. Cheaper too. Wasn't a tough decision to make.

And while we're on the subject, if you can show me all the tests that Sport Contact 2s are supposed to have won I'd be very interested to read them. I had Sport Contacts on my previous car as OEM and they were crap too. Just because a tyre comes on a car as OEM doesn't mean it's any good, just that the manufacturer is prepared to do deals in the hope that at replacement time the lazy will just ask for what is already on to be refitted.

I bought my Octavia vRS from the fuzz (ex police pursuit) it came with 4 Good Year Eagle F1's which from the service log were reolaced 2k miles before I got the car, I've done 9k myself on them since and they seem to run very well, although I'll probably go to Conti SC3's when it's time, I usually end up getting all 4 changed in one hit which usually makes things a little simpler!

Ive been tempted by these. Next time I think I will try these. Are they good?

Aren't they CS2s as original equipment? No complaints from me though they certainly seem more durable than Pirellis on my previous car

Might not be lazy, maybe only replacing one or two tyres in which case it makes some sense to stay with the same tyres.

I can't say I've had any problems with the original Contis on mine.

No problems with Conti's on mine except for tyre wrecking punctures. Got CS2 on the back and CS3 on the front.
