K & N Air Filter

Featured Replies

Thinking about changing the Air Filter to K & N. Not being very technical under the bonnet would ask

1. Is it worth it ? Any gain ?

2. How easy is it to do and is the air filter accessible without many automotive tools or use of a ramp to get under car ?

Just wondered peoples thoughts.

Thanks.

I put a Revo one in mine, I "think" they are the same installation as the K&N kit.

I did a guide HERE

I don't think you will see much gain with it but it will feel a bit smoother and my Revo one gave me a few extra MPG

Going with the revo filter and just ordered it.

Need to get a torx driver as sadly don't have one ! :(

If it all arrives ill fit it this coming weekend

i personnaly think that by buying that your throwing £45 away. it'll be just like changing a panel filter, purely placebo, with no actual gains other than a raspy induction note. Ive been this route twice now and wouldntbother again as i end up buying an induction kit which does give gains, so its nothing but a waste.

An additional £100 would see you with the forge intake which is dyno proven to give around 10hp on a std car

Mine came next day :) so should be there in no time at all!

I got my Torx screwdrivers from Tesco, was £2.97 for 10 piece set

Same as, did the K&N in my ST and pipercross and carbonio in the octavia. Both useless lol.

i have had a k&n induction in my mk1 from around the second week of ownership and its 7 years old now. i love the sound it makes irrespective of any quoted gains

Fitted it tonight, took 15 mins - thanks to VRS powered excellent guide with pictures mate - you should get this pinned to the boards - was the difference between me thinking about changing the air filter and actually doing it !

Took it for a quick 5 mile blast near the home and you can hear a bit more note to the exhaust, although could not tell if any performance difference not that i would expect much - if any.

When I put it in and started the car it ran lumpy for about 30 seconds, presume the ECU is learning ? After that it was fine. I presume you cant really do anything wrong by changing the air filter and the ECU just picks it up and learns it?

The word placebo was used by others and its possible that's all it is, however its made me feel better tonight and its definantley improved the exhaust note so i am happy for a relative little amount of money spent

If it makes you happy and you notice an improvement, money well spent

Get the REVO sent to your work. Take the torx driver with you and say your getting petrol. 10 - 15 min job. You can say you took the 'long' route back and she doesnt know any different....

I'm quite old fashioned or is that under the thumb?, I would have to ask for the money as I'm not allowed to carry money, burns a hole in my pocket how much was it?, and does it fit inside the plastic tub

  • 2 weeks later...

I nearly bought a filter for my car last year and did a search on the net which proved to be mostly negative and I came to the conclusion that it is like Slick 50 of old. Good marketing and a feel good factor but in the real world they don't give much if any improvement in performance.

Fitted a K&N to my Superb and it lost 2 hp on the dyno but has gained 1-2mpg on average
