EGR problem on BLT engine.

Featured Replies

Evening all sorry about yet another EGR question but I'm newish to the forum and I've come across a problem with my recently purchased vRS.

After buying the car a month ago the engine check light came on, I had the light reset and a couple of day's later I got around to removing the EGR valve and gave it a really good clean, less than a month later and around 1000 miles the engine check light has once again come on.

Just wondering if there could be another problem causing the light to come on, as surely the EGR can't be clogged up once again in such a short amount of time?I did notice when I removed the under tray that the intercooler seemed to be full of the same crap that the EGR was, could this of moved along the system and now blocked the EGR valve?

Both times that the light has come it has been whilst on long journeys mainly on motorway. My car is an 06 plate with the BLT engine code, as I understand I can't fit myself a delete pipe and have the light mapped out?

Is it showing an EGR flow error code when scanned for fault codes?

Do you have the 9mm "stutter fix" gasket installed in place of the standard 25mm ('ish) one?

If so it is not uncommon for the engine check light to illuminate on a long, light throttle journey in my experience. It goes off again after a day, or two, of "normal" driving and is mainly just a nuisance. Drilling out the gasket to 11.5mm can help sometimes.

If it's not this I have no idea.

I've not had it scanned yet, going to try and gain access to the gear today at work if I get the chance.

I've not checked if the gasket fix has been done, I was going to do it when I last cleaned the egr valve but I was supplied with the wrong one so I left it alone.

It does sound like that could be the issue as both times the light has come on was after 100 mile + motorway work sat on cruise control at 65mph

As MODVRS says - I had the same issue after some 'eco-driving' back in March.

Try to avoid sitting on a light throttle for too long, give it the odd burst around a line of traffic occasionally, this keeps things clear.

You should be able to tell if the modified gasket is fitted by feeling for the small tabs sticking out from the main gasket. Look at the photo of the two gaskets in the following link. May save some dismantling.

Just had a look under the bonnet and there isn't any tabs on the gasket so it must still have the original gasket fitted.

Thanks for all your help and advice people
