So last night my mum picked up her first ever car.  It’s a 2008 Hyundai Getz.  She got a great deal on it and I am well happy for her.

It was bought out of an authorised Hyundai dealer with full service history with them.  We checked the car out last Thursday and decided to buy it on the Friday.  One thing that didn’t come with it were a set of mats.

I didn’t notice that there wasn’t any when we first viewed it.  I only noticed when we got home last night after picking it up that there weren’t any mats in the car.

So I phoned the sales man this morning to ask if they would kindly throw in a set of mats.  He said that he couldn’t do that as it wasn’t agreed at the time of sale.  That is fair enough I guess, but, we are good customers to this dealership, this is our 4th car in as many years, and I would happily purchase my next car off them.  So this has left me slight annoyed.

I was just wanting to see your experiences with buying a used car from an authorised dealer.  Have you had mats included if they weren’t in the car when you viewed it?  I feel that we should be allowed a new set as it’s only fair.  If a wheel had been missing, I would like to think they would have fitted a new one without agreeing it at the time of sale, so why not through in a set of mats?

Rant over.  I haven’t mentioned the dealership as I’m not here to flame, just looking advice.

I'd be surprised if mats are standard equipment on Hyundais. I might have given you some as a goodwill gesture, but that's what it would have been.

I had this when i went to view a honda civic for a friend,no mats fitted,i asked them to put a set in to close the deal & they did(they probably just took a set out of another civic on sale) with you been a good customer you would think they would put a set in for you,as ken says it would be a goodwill gesture.Maybe call in to dealer & speak to general manager & see what they can do for you.

I agree with the dealer on this you should of struck your deal ..... then added - plus a full set of mats.

You agreed the price, collected the car and only NOW you want more from the deal, bit late IMO.

You have a point. I should have checked and asked for them. I think we're both at fault. I should have asked last week and they should have been included as a good will gesture.

Ps is the next morning after paying and collecting the car a bit late? It's not like I've left it weeks. Although I have another lesson in buying a used car.

Worse thing is dealer can say no,so pop back,speak to the general manager not a salesman as they cant do anthing without asking the sales manager,be polite & explain the situation & mention the cars you have bought off them & see what they say,if its still no ask about a discount on buying some?

New cars I'd expect mats, but used I'd be surprised if a dealer offered them.

As for your situation, as others have said, bit late after paying for and collecting the car.

Tesco's extra value car mats are 99p

I bet that they have a big pile of mats in their cleaning bay, from which they could probably cobble together a half decent set.

Used cars are sold as they stand, if you wanted mats in it you should have said so before you completed the deal. I don't know how the salesman didn't burst out laughing really :S

Too late now. Get yourself down to Tesco or somewhere and buy a dirt cheap set of mats.

I wouldn't want a buyer of my car to come back and change the "Deal" (after agreeing a price) just for the sake of some poxy mats.

My mum bought a Hyundai Getz 2008 brand new at the time, still in the wrapping when she test drove it the guy had to take a few plastic coverings off the car for her to see and use it was that new lol, anyway he couldnt work in a set of mats on the deal :wonder: anyway i got her a set of mats from Costco well worth the cash.

Well, after calling out and having a word with the salesman he very kindly agreed to throw in a nice new set of mats.
