Should I have a cruise control light?

Featured Replies

Just had cruise fitted to my 2006 petrol vrs mk2 and the vag garage assures me that I shouldn't have an indicator light which illuminates when cruise is activated

I know my previous 59 plate vrs had one can anyone with an 06 vrs confirm whether or not I should have one?

Many thanks

Think it depends if you have MaxiDot or not.

When I had MaxiDot retro fitted I ended up with a cruise control light, mine was a 55 plate.

I had a pre face-lift with a yellow cruise indicator and a

Face-lift with a green one.

Cruise control warning light on Maxidot cars came in about 07 plate.

I have a 55 plate L&K with maxidot and cruise as standard, no warning light.

MikeHolroyd had a maxidot retrofit on a 54??? plate and has a cruise light, his maxidot was from a post 07 car.

So, to answer your question - if your maxidot unit is 07 or later you will have a warning light.

Take a look at this thread I started a few months ago

Can anyone tell me what the light looks like so I can see if I have one,.....

I don't have maxidot but get a small speedo light with an arrow pointing to it iirc when cruise is on.

MikeHolroyd activated my cruise on my 56 vrs, ( I fitted the hardware myself). Yes when activated I get an orange light as Martziniuk describes. Vrsbilly pm me your mobile no' and I'll text you back a pic of the indicated when activated.

I've a 56 plate Octy vRS TDi and it has the cruise control light comes on the dash to say it it's activated.

My car is a MY2007 I believe with the Stream MP3 and red brake calipers so the cruise control light does come on, from reading the previous thread it seems the cars before this did not the icon light up when CC was activated.

56 plates are more than likely 2007 MY

Mines the same. Don't have Maxidot

It doesn't matter whether or not you have maxidot. MY 2007 onwards clusters, maxidot and non-maxidot, both have cruise lights -- PeteHuws' VRS that I activated cruise on hasn't got maxidot but does have the light.

My cruise light started working when the maxidot was retrofitted, but it was a brand new 2010 maxidot that went in.

It also seems that some folk have a green cruise light, whilst others have orange!

Agreed, seeing as the thread was started about a VRS I kind of assumed Maxidot. As Mike says - MY07 onwards has a warning light. In fact, if you look at your options codes you can tell. Mine has option code 6Y0 - Without cruise control warning system.

My '06 with factory cruise and Maxidot did not have an indicator.

is it possible to activate the cruise display(speed at which cruise control is set) in the central info display ...

(i know its not maxi-dot - but if this display can..... then surely maxi-dot can also)

OK, just what you've been waiting for..................

Ok so just checked and my car HAS THAT LIGHT it just doesn't come on.........

and I am gutted that I need a new cluster just to get an LED to come on in the dash!

I am sure someone stripped a dash down and the LED is there, there is something else missing off of the circuitry.

You can see on my cluster as well where the light should be.

I have had cars with cruise for at least the last 10 years, and this is the first one that doesn't have a warning light. I don't need a warning light - it is kind of obvious when you have cruise on, but seeing as you get a warning light if you turn traction or stability off, it seems odd that you don't get a warning light if you turn cruise on!
