Audi S3 Lower Brace......How the FU*K does it fit?

Featured Replies

The "Top Hat" bolts are ment to expand......Yes?

If placed in holes the simple rotate! Tried puting them in the vice to "Start" them so they grip the hole.......No Way!

I tap it in with a hammer, fine than when you put a spanner on them to simple rotate and fall out of the hole!

I am some what in the dark here, i can't get behind the stucture because its a box section?????????????

Out of Idea's

i had to have mine welded into position Mike as i encountered the same problem as you.

i think that will be your only option, not very helpfull i know!!!!!

Wrap some tape around the clentch nuts so they are a firm push fit, then bolt up the brace. Should give them enough grip to bite and start expanding. Bin the washers that do not fit on most kits.

Tried that..no good!

The only thing i can think to do is mill a couple of flats on the edges so i can make a very thin spanner to fit and hold the "Top Hat" till it begins to expand.

This is NOT the cake walk i was lend to expect by anothers on this BB! !!!!

Tape works. It's how i fitted mine.

When I was having my tyres changed and the car was up on the ramp i got them to use the air gun things they put wheel nuts on with and they went in with no trouble.

2 minute job if you know a friendly kwik fit fitter!

Well if its anything like your wheels after you go to Kwik-Fit, it'll never come off again :D

I'm amazed they manage to get the right wheels on ;) Exhausts are not their strength based on having the wrong exhaust fitted twice before eventually admitting that it was wrong, then fitting the right exhaust, which dropped down as it hadn't been hooked in properly... Suffice to say I don't intend to use them again ;)

Hopefully your experience is better :D

Much better. I never use them :D

Kwik-Fit kings of the wellie gun, notice how they always turn it up to 11.

My prefered tyre fitter on spins the wheel nuts / bolts with the gun then finishes off with the torque wrench.

so does mine :)

but that method reuires a higher degree of skill than just wacking the air gun on and pulling the trigger....maybe your preferred fitter can read and is trained

setting a torque wrench..... needs a bit of skill that job :D

Neither did I / will I ever again after that...

We were next to one and got a big discount so tried them once. That was about it

I just held the "top hats" with some mol grips until they expanded enough....took me longer to jack the car up.

When I did mine, I put the bolt through then the expanding nut thing outside of the car and started the nut expanding slightly. Then when I put them in the holes under the car still attached to the brace they were a snug fit and tightened nicely.
