Sport mode to D and back

Featured Replies

Guys had the VRS for a couple of weeks now and absolutly love it. I have a question regarding sport mode. Whilst sport really transforms the car I find that when you revert back to steady driving it will stay really high in the revs. Yes you can use paddles to shift up however it soon reverts back to sport and drops a few cogs.

So can you select sport then select D whilst on the move??

Yes but the ECU has to relearn as it thinks even when in D that you want to drive in a sporty fashion. One reason why I changed back to a manual after 2 years.

yes you can , rtfm , also if you hold the + paddel for 3 sec it changes back into auto from manuel if you used the paddel before in S or D

I just move the stick from D to Tiptronic and back.

The trouble with holding the right paddle is that the car changes up.

But yes, you can safely move from D to S - it's only your way of asking the car to provide more revs.

I regularly do this, saves asking the car to guess what you want to do by using the accelerator - this doesn't always work for me. Switching to 'S', I find that the car instantly goes into the gear to give you optimum performance and that's exactly what I want it to do.

The kickdown button, I find, sometimes takes it a little too far.

yes the reason why you can change into S mode safely is because the gear lever isn't attached to the gearbox at all its just like a big switch that tells the car how you would like to drive the car then does the actual changing of then gears using its dual clutch system.

So it is possible to change to S from D and vice versa whilst still on the move? Do you have to do anything else, like slow down? Just want to be doubly sure I don't knacker anything up.

Yes it is okay.

yes thats fine.. the only thing i would do is when changing modes lift your foot off the accelerator change mode give it a second to let it change over and configure then put your foot back on the peddal, just to prevent any clutch slipping if the mode you change it to requires a gear change.

(you wouldnt change gear in a manual with your foot still on the accelerator peddal) :)

Don't think it does - can't say i have experienced anything like that at all.

I swap from S to D all the time and can be safely done at any speed - it is just basically swapping the ECU programme.

Yes its fine to go between S and D. I find the car is its most viceral in S but its too lairy for anything other than flat out driving; way too keen to hold a lower gear and rev to 7 K in each gear. Good fun though.

You will find that when shifting back to D the box takes a few seconds to drop to a higher ratio, its not instantaneous, so you'll hold high revs in a lower gear for perhaps 3 to 4 secs before it goes back to slow mode.

To be honest I find the car most rewarding to drive pushing the stick across to tiptronic and using the paddles, will hold the gear your in so long as the car can adequately pull it and you dont hit the limiter; you can also get full throttle without activating kickdown one you get used to the kickdown switch....is about as close to full manual control you can get with it.
