Found some vw505.01 compliant oil...

Featured Replies

After searching high and low for the above, and after reading on briskoda about how difficult this stuff is to come by in petrol stations etc. I had almost given up my search, untilk I popped into my local filling station, about half a mile away from me, where I found that hey have been stocking Delphi 5w40 VW505.01 compliant synthetic diesel engine oil for the past few months! All this time I have been looking all over Northern Irelan/ t'internet for some, when it has been on the shelves of my local place!!!! Typical...

Does it say on the container that it meets spec VW 505 01 or that it is suitable for vehicles requiring that spec oil? And is it fully or semi-synthetic? If it is 'kosher', I will add it to the list below:

I've found spec sheets for Delphi oil here. Delphi Prestige Plus 5W-40 is a fully synthetic oil which meets specs VW 502.00/505 00 (1/97) so isn't suitable. Is that the same oil as the one you bought?

Can't remember the exact name, but definitely lists it as VW505.01 compliant on the back, the station owner showed me some other (more expensive, almost same price for 1litre as 5litres of Delphi!) Castrol stuff but I noticed that it was 502 compliant, he reckoned it would be safe enough but I knew that it was 505.01 I was looking for.

Edit: Had a look on Delphi site, it says that one of the oils in its product range is 'a 5W-40 CF to meet VW Diesel 505.01 requirements'. That'll be the one...

Anyone that has a Cosco card can go in and but Mobil 1 in 0-40w for

This oil meets VW 502.00...505.00 and 503.01

So basically not suitable for PD engines then.

Millers XFE-PD is still my regular oil. Picked up from most motor factors - Is deffo 505.01 compliant (approved by VW themselves) and is cheap - around

Sorry, was not meaning it was suitable for diesel, but as OILMAN reckons that 502.00 is one of the latest specs for high performance petrol engines, thought it might be useful for non soot burners.....................LOL

Sorry if you thought otherwise, I will have a look in there for 505.01 next time I am in there as they are really cheap on most items.

I have added that oil to the lists in the Articles/Guides section.
