Rattle from OSR over rough tarmac

Featured Replies

Anyone had something similar? Can't seem to track it down and have had anything in the boot out over the weekend, plus checked the spare wheel and toolkit is secure.

Seems to be coming from around the wheelarch area, rear offside. Not really relishing having to take the boot carpet on the right-hand side off, to continue diagnosis! emoticon-0114-dull.gif

It's only apparent over rough, rippled, broken tarmac or over small potholes. I obviously try to avoid crap surfacing and potholes where possible, but the state of local roads makes this all but impossible. Hence the rattle is quite annoying.

Suggestions welcome!

Cheers,

Steve

Rear seat backrest not latched properly? Had that in the Fabia once as the backrest latched OK but still ratlled and that sounded somewherre in that direction...

Plastic wheel arch cover come loose??

Checked both cheers lads. Made very sure the backrest was secure yesterday!

And no issues with the wheelarch cover noted when I cleaned them yesterday.

this happened on my old PD before I traded it, I never got round to finding out what it was....

I'm gettin the same mate have checked spare wheel incase of anything loose nothig, checked rear seat incl bench, rear windows, seals still cand find it i think it maybe a trim part rattling.

my 11yr old Impreza doesnt rattle as much lol

Thing is, everything else is well screwed and bolted together, so this one issue is all the more annoying!

Might take everything out again, put the rear seats down and see if the noise changes at all. Least I have no problem re-creating the issue emoticon-0114-dull.gif

Try the rear brake disc shield, it can cause a noise similar to that you are describing. Give the tyre a hard kick and the disc shield will rattle if it is loose, had this on mine and secured it with a cable tie until the next service.

Oh, now there's a thought! Thanks for that. Not been long since I had the rear brakes upgraded so that's a definite possibility.

Cheers.

Mine does this too! i had it up on the ramps & had a quick look underneath but couldnt see anything wrong, mine sounds like a exhaust heat shield rattling. It only does it over rough ish roads.

Pretty sure it isn't the brake shield. Could be an exhaust heat shield like you say.

Next option is to get it up on a ramp and have a decent look round. Unless it is inside the car of course, hidden away! emoticon-0108-speechless.gif

what about the petrol cap area, cable for the lock moving about. just a thought.

I'd had a similar annoying rattle / vibration for several weeks. Eventually tracked it down to the rear high level brake-light housing. You only had to vibrate your fingers on the plastic surround to see that something was loose. A dealer job - now it's spot on; didn't realise how bad it had got, now that the car is so quiet again.

May be of some use to someone here.

Thanks for that - will check that out as well.

Yes, mine is the same. The noise got worse and worse so definitely worth a visit to dealer. Now if I could sort out the dashboard rattles the car would be perfect!

Think I've traced mine to the plastic trim behind the passenger seat. Will try and remove that section and see if that helps.

Another thing to try if you like is to fold down the back seats and wind some electrical tape 2 or 3 times round the fixed catch that the seat locks onto. This takes up some of the slack and provides a bit of cushoning. Also works on the boot latch if thats rattling

Check the shock absorber sleeves they can drop and rattle

Thanks. Going to go test drive at the weekend with the seats down and the parcel shelf out. Just to try and pinpoint the issue further.

Thanks but I'm running FSD shocks, which were newly fitted about 4 months ago. Rattle started about 2 weeks ago and does definitely seem to be within the cabin.

another one for you - lift the seat squabs and there is some hard plastic trim at the door edge held down by a big plastic screw. Mine wer loose and could rattle if hit but could be tightened with the big plastic screw.

Excuse ignorance but what are seat squabs.

In the mean time I've discovered another potential source of noise. I decided for the first time to lower the rear central arm rest. Its flimsy construction does suggest possible rattle waiting to develop. If Skoda can't make a proper armrest it would be better for all if they didn't bother. They should pocket the tuppence halfpenny they spent (I may be overestimating here) designing, making and installing the damn thing.

OK asked wife what's a squab. Small chicken came the reply. Got into back of car lifted rear seat and there is plastic screw - done up nice and tight. Looked up squab in OED: yes it's a small (unfledged) bird, short fat person, ottoman cushion etc etc. So now I know.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Sorry - the seat Squab is the bit of the seat you sit on... or a baby pidgeon!

LOL. I have ruled out the possibility of it being caused by wildfowl ;)

Tracked down to something behind the plastic trim, above and behind the rear O/S seatbelt. I've pulled some of the trim out, but seems to have got worse! Seems a tricky piece of trim to remove emoticon-0114-dull.gif

Seriously doing my head in now, especially considering the effortlessly smooth nature of the road network emoticon-0108-speechless.gif
