Has anyone firmed up steering using vagcom?

Featured Replies

Just wondered if it was worth doing on the vrs. Does it make much of a difference? Improved feel? More feedback? Interested to hear your thoughts.

Didn't think a vagcom could do that mate

Fabia's iv seen are all firmest anyway

Yes I've done it on my Fabia 1.9TDI 100bhp (comfort spec??)

I set it to the heaviest (ie least power assistance). IT was set in the middle setting from factory.

Does it firm up the steering?

errrr it just makes it feel heavier/slower, doesn't increase 'feel'. There's not much 'feel' to be had from this chassis+electric power steering.

But i've left it on the heaviest setting now, I'm just used to it now.

Worth giving it a go, it don't cost anything!

I had mine adjusted and the default setting was around 1 or 2 settings away from heaviest

Used VAG-COM 3 years ago to give our Fabia vRS's steering a firmer feel.

Mine was not heaviest. Surprised if vrs is heaviest by default, unless this is intended to give it a "sportier" feel.

I prefer it heavier. If nothing else you burn a few more calories. Perfect excuse for eating that pie

Thanks for replies. I do prefer heavier steering. Just need to find someone willing near Sutton to tweak it for me.

I'm wondering what it would be like without any power steering whatsoever. I remember the good old days of cars really loading up steering through fast corners and having to hang on for dear life. I guess they were petrol though so lighter engines. Might damage steering components too.

I recoded mine, Can't say I noticed any difference!

The coding format has changed slightly from that on Stu's site!

I opted for same coding as above, ie 10140. I tried 10120,10130 and 10150 for comparison. The steering weight was too light with the first 2, and far too heavy with the latter.

When mine failed (after returning from a garage having had it 'fixed', so I thought it was working) it was much much nicer on NSL roads. A lot heavier, which I prefer and a lot less fidgety. That said, around town mini-roundabouts were an issue, and getting stuck wasn't unheard of sadly!

Could always pull the fuse out too see, but I dunno what damage (if any) that would do.
