Skoda in the BTCC

Featured Replies

It was mentioned on Tin Top Tuesday (BTCC radio show) by Shaun Hollomby (AMD Milltek Golf BTCC team owner) that there is an NGTC Skoda being built for the BTCC. Rumor has it, it'll be an Octy driven by Matt Hamilton.

Fingers crossed this happens. If it does thats all the main stream VAG brand reprosented in the BTCC !!!! SEAT, VW, AUDI and finally SKODA,

That would be great. I remember the (previous) SEAT Toledo being in BTCC and it did all right.

It begs lots of questions and especially what engine would they use?

Not sure the 2 litre TDI would be used even though they have been phased out of the WTCC as they were only producing 285 hp against the 315 hp from the petrol 1.6 litre petrol turbos.

There is the IRC engine in the Fabia but do not know if they could get their hands on any of those.

UK is a special market for Skoda due to us not being in the Euro zone the Skoda brand is so much better value that the Euro zone brands Audi, SEAT and VW. I stopped following BTCC when there was no VAG factory team although Rally has always been Skoda's "main" thing and Skoda Motorsport UK will be at Goodwood Festival of Speed next week of course!

IIRC All NGTC cars will have same equipment under the bonnet, just different shell.

Yep. Full NGTC spec cars must be either the complete Swindon built engine provided by TOCA .... OR.... a 2.0T unit from the manufacturor's range of brands using the stock turbo and ECU provide by TOCA.

For example... engine wise (as the confusing factor for 2011/2012 is that S2000 cars can run an NGTC engine) the following cars have NGTC spec engines. I'll group the cars together to show the fact that the engines are identical

Rob Austin Audi A4 (lehman tuned VAG 2.0TFI unit) - FULL NGTC Car

STR Leons (lehman tuned VAG 2.0TFI unit)

AMD Golf (lehman tuned VAG 2.0TFI unit)

888 Vectras (Swindon / TOCA 2.0T unit)

Pirtek Vectras (Swindon / TOCA 2.0T unit)

Honda Civics (Neil Brown tuned Honda 2.0T unit)

Dynojet Toyota (CRtech tuned Toyota 2.0T unit) - FULL NGTC Car

Speedworks Toyota (Swindon / TOCA 2.0T unit) - FULL NGTC Car

Arena Global Focus (Mountune tuned Ford Ecoboost 2.0T unit)

Motorbase Focus ST (Mountune tuned Ford Ecoboost 2.0T unit)

THMotorsport who are rumored to be building the Skoda; IMHO would be silly not to go for the tried and tested Lehman unit.

Also WTCC and BTCC share no comminality in regs past 2013. And it's likely that WTCC will drop support of outright 2.0N/A - TDI S2000 cars next year, as there is now only one BMW team running a 2.0 N/A unit.

as the confusing factor for 2011/2012

It's made for some brilliant racing depending on track and engine type....also made for some brilliant Plato interviews :giggle: :giggle:
