Advice on buying new car and Tax?

Featured Replies

Hi

Im about to buy a 3 year Fabia 1.2 for 4.800 with 24,500miles very good condition, this afternoon, agreed a good price, I assumed a bit of tax would be included but because an ex-company car it has no tax, dealer told me after we agreed a price. Should I get dealer to knock more off so I can pay tax on it ? ive already paid a years tax on the car Im trading in which Im getting next to nothing, should I negotiate? or is this normal? , now paying another £110 on top of my good deal, I dont want to jeopardise it.

advice would be appreciated.

Tracey

Keep your current tax disc and get a refund on the remaining months when you trade it in.

I agree with softscoop, the trade in price they give you for your car doesn't include tax so take the disc out and get a refund... Just don't tell them ;)

Head to your local DVLA office with your tax disc and they'll refund the money for all full months remaining.

Why should the dealer pay your tax for driving on the road?

Do you want him to contribute towards your income tax on the money you used to pay for it? It's a tax for your use of the car, you should pay for it

Your not serious are you? Apart from the fact that every new car I've bought has come with a year of tax if my dealer was to refuse to tax a new car I wouldn't accept it. If it's not taxed you can't drive it away for a start....

I know this is a used car, so I agree with previous posters, trade in your old Tax disk for a refund :)

Erm, I am cometely serious. When you buy a brand new car it is taxed, and you for it. It's on the invoice along with delivery, first reg fee and a splash of fuel.

Used car is no different - it's a tax YOU have to pay. I agree the dealer should do the leg work but the cost of the fax is in addition to the vehicle cost ( as it is with a new car)

Well I don't understand how at any point the car being bought didn't have road tax, even fleet vehicles have to display road tax. So my point is the tax has been taken out... how hard is it for the dealer to slap a 6 month tax disk in it to make it legal to drive away?

Yes, buying a new car may well have the tax invoiced, the whole point is so that the car can be driven away there an then.. why would you sell a car with no road tax, thats like selling a car with no tyres, you cant drive it on the road until you get it sorted.

What I am saying is tax is added to the price of a used car as it is with a new car, that's all

Tracey only wanted a bit of advice. Your reply is the reason why I don't post much on here. I'm happy to pay the £12 a year for Freedom and have done for the last few years, but a reply like yours is uncalled for and puts people off.
