Columbus Group Buy?

Featured Replies

Been thinking about doing a Columbus group buy of some kind.

But need to know an idea of what people would be prepared to pay and the kind of numbers I could expect.

Also because of the value of each unit I'd need a reasonable deposit as I don't want to be left with several Columbus units.

Just so I can get an idea of numbers and pricing. Would you mind voting in the poll please?

I'd be interested in one for the Greenline Yeti.

The full book price is bonkers. (better add.. In my opinion)

I have previously bought a cheap one off ebay for the other Yeti, and while it works fine I hit upgrade difficulties with the V7 disc. So I'd be prepared to pay a bit more for a genuine from a dealer.

That would probably have been down to the unit having older software, they need to be the newer firmware to get V7 and above to work properly.

Ive already got a unit fitted so I wont vote.

However I would be willing to join a group buy and pay 100% upfront with the provision that if the unit was faulty it would be exchanged without any issues.

As for price thats a bit more difficult to judge. List price from new is £1,500 but you can buy used at around £500 (prices range from £400-£600) and of course there is the ebay option.

So i'd guess at a brand new fully fitted and coded unit at being around the £700-£750 price. Of course it goes without saying I want it for less but being realistic about the alternatives and faced with a brand new fitted unit at £700 ish I would take that option. Especially if it had the latest firmware and maps

Would be interested James

But being a tight wad less than £650 would be good

Just a suggestion James.

I for one would not be 100% sure it would work in a MY08 Roomster. Perhaps you should list what vehicles this unit is suitable for to prevent anyone being dissapointed and save a lot of questions to you.

Cheers James.

To be honest I lost my patience with the thing. We'll live with V6 for now.

As much as it'd be handy a few times a year to have full postcode destination entry it'll do.

Do us a good price and I may go for two. ;)

Do you have any idea on ball park James?

Based on the book price, couldnt see this at much less than £1k which would put many firmly out. £600 ish for a legit warrantied unit would be tempting.

Can this be fitted to the MKII vRS? If it's warrantied and fitted, up to £750.

who in their right mind will say they will paid £700+ when £650 or less is avaliable? not very good at bartering are we

Hi James,

I've just voted as I'd be interested in a Columbus for my Octi :)

How about a price for a genuine unit without fitting/ coding and a price fitted so those who might be tempted, but are on a budget, could be part of a potential group buy?

Justin

I asked a local stealer about upgrading my 2010 superbs bolero to a Columbus & he just said "no, forget it". Apart from canbus communication to sort he said I'd need to fit a new rear window as it's got the gps antenna integrated?? I'm thinking aftermarket perhaps, but the new shape Bolero is causing issue with the fascia replacement. Anyone done a Columbus upgrade or aftermarket before to the new Superb?

You may be able to source one for this price or less, but their source has been well discussed here before as it may not be entirely legit. As in stolen on the continent, reprogrammed to break the code and sold on with a faux code card.

I very much doubt this is what James has in mind, and that such a GB would be sourced directly from VAG through proper channels and warranteed as such.

I think he meant why are people not choosing the £650 or less option in the poll.

thats what i mean srry my bad english

i did vote for £650 as i think that is a very fair price from a main dealer, since i live so far away from him it will not be worth my while to travel that distance hence i mention posting the unit and i get it fitted by shark

Any update on this, whats the minimum number before it goes ahead?

I would definately be interested, not fitting ect just delivered, willing to pay under £650 as no fitting ect for my Octy 2. Would easily pay 30 - 40% deposit before order going through.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the interest. It is still something I'm working on but it isn't priority.

I think it is going to be 5 weeks until I have everything finalised and all the pricing available.

Because everyone lives so far away I think I'll do supply only, although it is very easy to fit and I'll make a youtube video or something as a guide on how to fit the unit.

I'll keep you posted!

I'd be interested to hear what kind of pricing you manage to get.

One of my wife's brothers lives in the Czech Republic and I managed to get him to have a chat with local dealers to get some prices on Columbus units - it was my plan to start making nice profits and selling legitimate ones (unlike 99% of the ones you find on EBay).

Anyway pricing was poor, even when volume was mentioned.

As for buying in the UK - if I want legitimate I would have to pay for legitimate, so again not much discount available.

I won't vote on this one as I have Columbus fitted at the factory - but watching with interest.

If it was a guarantee 100% fully functional and fitting to a MK2 Fabia vRS I'd certainly thing about it.
