Goodbye It's Mostly Been Fun

Featured Replies

Dear Fellow Briskodians,

I regret to say, that I have decided to stop giving technical information on the Forum. IMHO, this Forum is declining into the 'modification' center of the Universe. I am sick of threads about what wheels, EGR delete, CAT delete, by people who obviously don't give a stuff about air quality or the safety of other road users in some cases.

Technical queries only a few hours old, are often relegated to page two or three of the forum, often with no answers, while page one, is stuffed with modification threads.

I have never been one to ignore problems, and will jump into a thread, if I think a response is warranted. Frankly, there are a few users, who should have been banned some time ago, IMHO.

My sincere apologies to those who valued my technical advice, I wish you many years of safe Skoda Fabia driving.

Best Regards, MT

Yep and I'm the type to find "What winter tyres should I buy?" boring, so do ya know what I do? I don't read them and move onto another thread.

Good luck finding a forum (or any group of people) that share your view point with absolutely no exceptions. You decided to jump down my throat and when you got proven wrong you decide to go for the sympathy vote by announcing that you're leaving. Bravo!

You're a good mechanic, you know your stuff and helped my mate fix his vRS but it was entirely your choice to publicly speak down to me just because you disagreed with something I wrote in my own thread... It was uncalled for so yes I took an attitude with you.

I dont really know anyone on this forum, but from what i have read you seem to know your stuff. Its like this on lots of forums, you just need to choose to ignore certain posts or not read them. I read lots of posts but i dont always comment unless i feel its valuable input. I know a lot of the same questions get asked but this is due to not knowing how to use the search properly. I think you should have a few days off and chill a little.

This is not meant as a dig at xa0sx, ive read your post and understand your frustration with being pulled for no reason, some police have a 'power trip' and theres no need for it. I think your topic was just taken out of context by the way it was worded.

Shrug, I find the whole idea of a "goodbye" thread a bit attention seeking, but I would argue that any forum needs more people like MoggyTech and others (Ross/Techie springs to mind and probably more). I've certainly posted a few threads recently since changing to my Fabia and received some great advice from the pair of them.

FWIW, I did read the thread that appeared to kick this off, and I would agree that the OP was a bit of a knob. I've never understood the "respect is earnt" stuff, at the point where it's you vs the police there can pretty much only be one winner (since if they were traffic police they both count as "expert witnesses" and can corroborate each others stories in court, so would find it very easy to throw the book at you) so while it might grate on you to "arselick", it's often the best way. You can argue till the cows come home that that shouldn't be the case, and I'd agree with you, but it is what it is. Deliberately trying to get pulled and then giving them attitude isn't proving anything other than "young drivers are knobheads", so well done for giving that rumour some reinforcement and making it difficult for other young drivers.

I'd much rather just see MT stick to the "ask a tech" forum if he (or she, I have no idea!) finds all the stuff in here offensive, and I'd just start posting any technical questions I have in there rather than in the Fabia-specific forum which I guess was originally the idea anyway.

Perhaps a "modifications" sub forum would be a good idea.

Perhaps a "modifications" sub forum would be a good idea.

+1

most other forums i have/still use are far better set out than this imo....

ie - seperate modification forum seperate technical/fault finding forum etc at least that way people can read what and where they want to...

give it time moggy, the powers that be might even read this thread.....

Yep agree here ,,, it does appear that a lot more VRs's are now in the hands of the younger generation who like to mod their cars a lot more than the 'keep it oem' group. Thats not a bad thing , just a difference in opinion.

Maybe a 'modding forum' and a 'keep it oem' group is the answer here

Losing free valuable experience from the site is not the way forward,, I myself have had arguments on other forums and told them all to get lost but still ended up checking the site the next day and eventually going back !!

I frequently get told to add more forums.

Then i get told there are to many.

Then i get told other sites do it better but rarely told which or why.

So what i am saying is talk to me, post suggestions, this community is for us all, i just administer it.

Happy to add, so long as its clear. Which for some breaks the less is more practice.

Hope you don't disappear from this forum completely Moggy :( You're way up there amongst the top most helpful members IMO!

i have had a genunie techinical questions recently which wasnt to do with 'Modds' my CV failed which you did help me with  if i needed to take that route you suggested.

I know what you mean though, its more i need to know how to mod my car, oh somethigns broken 'I will pay someone to do it' mentality.

I know what you mean of the day of theads apon thread of how to fix your car and the occational banter and the cheeky 'Check this out' thread.

Dont go, just have a holiday

Yep I definitely think there needs to be some middle-ground between listing every possible sub category http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/53.aspx and just one category for each model http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?act=idx

Even if there was a "modifications" sub-forum we'd probably still end up with posts about aftermarket xenon kits, EGR deletes, etc in here.

Just a brain fart below, can't think of good titles.

Skoda Fabia I

- Help there's something wrong with my car

- I want to beef mine up

+1 on the separation of modding and general fabia forums.

Personally I would've thought it could be done something like this:

Fabia section

~~ General Section

~~ Modifying Performance

~~ Maintenance and Technical advice (Q&A)

Octavia section

~~ General Section

~~ Modifying

~~ Maintenance and Technical advice (Q&A)

Yeti section

~~ General Section

~~ Modifying

~~ Maintenance and Technical advice (Q&A)

Etc. imo this will make the general maintenance, performance etc sections redundant. We can keep i suppose styling and car care as that's pretty universal.

Kind of adapted this off xda developers forums which I found scary at first because of the sheer number of forums but very well layout for expansion. It helps with big pictures of the actual device (or cars in this case) to make it clear which section people want to be posting in. Here is xda forums as a look see layout: http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php

It sounds alot of work but im sure if we just make the sections now and slowly port topics across to relevant sections in time it will work, OR simply dump it all (performance and maintanence etc) in a "old threads archive" and it will still be available for searching but new threads cannot be made.

Maybe? I dunno.. one thing to say, another thing to do i suspect :D

Like this idea.... but it is down to the Colin at the end of the day.

I also really miss the project cars section, perhaps it can be added in the specific car section too..? :smirk:

Can't imagine why. I'm sure there's probably something in the rules advising you to be courteous to other members. An adult difference of opinions is fine, saying MoggyTech is probably a knob to work with and comparing him to AIDS isn't.

(Somewhat hypocritical of me I suppose, given that I was criticising xa0sx in my post above, but I would maintain that that was a difference of opinion, I don't think I stooped to name-calling...)

Sorry to hear you are stopping posting. It's a shame, as your posts are informative and very valuable to the forum imo.

I'd also vote for a separate modding section.

Hope you reconsider.

Heavens above!

Keep up the good work Moggy - we're not all vehicle technicians, and there is still room for the voice of reason and common sense to be heard

Your reply, and some others were removed as per forums rules and guidelines for needless abuse to others.

The whole thread that spurred moggytech to make this post has been binned four similar reasons. The mod team may slaying investigate some background issues which we appear to have missed and address posts and members accordingly.

It is a shame this member who has helped many of you has felt the need to make this post and remove their experience and help for others simply because a of few members.

Taking staff hat off for a mo I'm quite appalled at some peoples behaviour towards others. Briskoda is more than racing or thinking police doing their job are c***s. How many suspicious acting cars do you see pulled on cop shows that turn out to have no criminal activity when checked? Perhaps the youth are oppressed these days.

Mod hat back on.

OK everyone hold the phone. Last night is a blur, (really bad diabetic Hypo), what did I miss?

Was I compared to AIDS? not far off the mark, as diabetes attacks the immune system. :S

What am I like to work with? I'm retired, but a bit of a comedian. I am also ashamed to admit, that while I have a long fuse, I have one hell of a temper, and when it snaps, clear the decks. Low blood sugar always triggers one of my 'off the handle' episodes.

Anyway, while the thread in question seems to have been pulled, I vaguely remember something about Traffic Police, and losing the plot, or taking moral high ground, whatever. It's the Internet and stuff happens

I like the idea of a Fabia sub forum for tech matters, to keep modifications and tech inquiries separate.

Right, still got one hell of a headache, as you were. :p

So it was you was it  Was it on here? Pistonheads or SEATdoda? Do you owe me money?

Now I know why you didn't reply to some of my messages lol would have been better if you just said why moggy lol

Ps are you ex military moggy?

It was on here and yes you took the moral high ground calling me a moron because I have a EGR delete and decat which means I don't care about the environment...
