MOT Failure

Featured Replies

Hello all!

My mum recently had an MOT with her 1.4mpi Fabia, the problem was the nearside front lower suspension arm rubber bush had excessive movement in it, also the offside had play as well but was let with an advisory.

Was wondering if any of the Briskoda community could help with part prices? As she's been quoted £250 for it I'm sure it should be a bit cheaper than that for one bush right?

Tried a search but only the vRS came up - not sure if they use the same spec bushes so wasn't sure it'd help!

Thanks in advance peeps ;-)

That sounds like it's the console bush. It's quite a common problem, and they are the same across the entire Fabia range.

£250 sounds quite excessive. The bushes are only around £10 each, and you'd be much better off replacing both at the same time, especially if the other one already has play in it.

I bought a pair of them and I paid my local garage £80 to fit them.

I'd definitely have some sort of uprated bushes fitted as they seem to be a common thing to fail.

I paid about £80 to have a local well established independent change both sides with genuine VW/Audi/Skoda solid bushes. (3 different types of bush are available, the solid one is the longest lasting but somewhat harder than the others)

SKoda stealers wanted £200.

I just paid £80 to have two Cupra bushes fitted. The bushes were about £20 for the pair. I'd go for either the uprated Skoda part for longevity and comfort (4pin not 2pin) or the Seat Ibiza Cupra solid bush for longevity and steering sharpness .

Glad to see the Briskoda community is as helpful as ever! Thanks everyone for the advice/prices :)

It was all for nought though, managed to get the parts and fitting for £60ish but my bloody dad had already booked it into Kwikfit for £220!!

Anywhoo, I'm guessing soon she'll need her front brakes done as well, does anyone know the price of the two front brake discs? not the pads, just the disks i suspect. Also does anyone have a good fitting guide for the brakes? Preferable with pictures? B)

Did you actually get the work done at kwikfit, or was it just booked in? Nothing stopping you cancelling on them if it hasn't already been done.

Best place for discs might be your local GSF or eBay

This guide is for the 312mm upgrade, however the job is basically the same

It'll no doubt be cheapie copies of the originals at KF that'll die soon after the warranty ends too.

Just cancel the booking with Kwikfit. No obligation for you to go there. At least tell them you've been quoted £60 elsewhere - Kwikfit will usually reduce their price to keep your business.

Couldn't go elsewhere, it had been done by this afternoon - silly parents!

Sam, cheers for the guide mate, will come in handy!

Now to buy some front disks, only a 1.4mpi so shouldn't be much :)

It's always best to replace pads whenever discs are renewed. Especially if you're doing the job yourself. The old pads will be unevenly worn, especially if the old discs are knackered. This may contribute to the new discs getting knackered faster. They only cost about £30-40 and you're removing them anyway.
