Goodbye (for now)

Featured Replies

Actually it's not goodbye as I'll still be dropping by to see what's going on.

The Yeti has gone (sold to a very nice man from Portsmouth). I run my cars on company business (20,000 miles a year ish) and given the excellent deals that Skoda were doing on Octavia Scouts at the end of last year combined with how the Yeti was holding it's value, the finances were just too tempting.

So the next couple of years or so I will be in an anthracite Octavia Scout. Did I enjoy the Yeti, would I buy another, absolutely yes to both.

Thanks for the help and advise when needed, an excellent forum made up of genuinely helpful folk.

Would be very interested to hear how you think they stack up after you've had the Scout for a few thousand miles. Without doubt I'd make great use of that big 'ol Scout boot for the annual holidays!

Good luck with it. :)

Only done a very few miles so far (next week should change that) but initial impressions are very favourable. Scout seems quite a bit quieter than Yeti (bit of a suprise), but it is brand new, different tyres (Dunlop vs Pirrelli), etc. Boot has it's own echo, big test is going to be getting the internal bike rack and 2 Mountain bikes in, anticipting having to drop the saddles that we didn't have to do in the Yeti.

I'll get some miles under my belt and get back to you.

Plus you don't have to give the Scout a name! :giggle:

Enjoy!

Morning,

You asked me to let you know how I got on with the Octavia Scout after putting a few miles under its belt.

Well, I've got to say that I'm really impressed, it drives really well and is distinctly quieter that my previous Yeti (it would be nice to be able to jump back in the Yeti for a 'back to back comparison, but not possible). Some of this could be down to tyres (Dunlops as opposed to Pirellis on the Yeti), but engine noise is different too, the Octavia you can tell is a diesel, as it has a low 'humming' sound, but this is only notable as there is so little other noise.

Interior is inferior to the Yeti, could do with updating, but beautifully put together and not one squeak or rattle (still very new).

Practicality is great, I liked the Yeti arrangement, but on a day to day basis the Scout is definitely more practical and somewhat less fuss to get bulky stuff in. I can still get both mountain bikes in, but for the life of me couldn't get the Skoda Interior Bike Rack to work, so have ended up buying a Thule equivalent and have to drop the saddles due to reduced height.

Big surprise, fuel economy, still a very new engine (2,500 miles), but with mixed driving I'm averaging just under 50 mpg. My Yeti (140 diesel) was around 6mpg less than this and so as the miles increase on the Scout I would expect this to be an even greater gap.

Overall, i bought the Scout due to the deals that Skoda had going at the end of last year and knowing I wouldn't get the car until the middle of this year, otherwise I would still be very happily driving the Yeti, but I'm very happy with my choice. Great car at an unbeatable price (and half of that on 2 years interest free), same Skoda values.

What will I buy next (not for at least a couple of years), probably a Superb estate (but it wouldn't fit my garage, so that may not happen), if not that then probably another Scout (will have to see what the new model looks like) but the Yeti is definitely on the potentials list too. If Skoda ever do a slightly longer version of the Yeti, I will be at the front of the queue.

PS. Never name my cars, really can't understand why you would, so thanks for the suggestions, but no thanks.

Thanks for the update and comparison, very useful. They are similar cars but with subtle differences that make them distinctive so they offer a genuine choice.

I too would like a slightly larger Yeti boot but would that then make the slightly older Scout redundant? Maybe that is why the Yeti boot is the size it is.

Oh dear..... yet another vote this way re the interior... Lets hope our man out East does not see this as he point blank refused to believe everyone telling him just this!

I LOVE the Scout. Such a great looking car and amazing value for money. But alas no Elegance spec!!!! Really stupid of Škoda. So to get a decent spec one nearly EVERYTHING has to be a costly option. Not clever. Had it not been for the postage stamp sunroof I'd have had one of these years ago.

And now available with the DSG.........but it wasn't when I placed my order last year.

Or Roger!

Please let me know if that needs further explanation ;)

As soon as Scout is available with CR170/Leather I will seriously have to consider trading in the LE, I'd miss the seats though. I foresee a huge waiting list for that spec of Scout if it ever comes about, ala Yeti though.

As a former cub and scout i know sir!, me me me!

O the shame...

So does anyone want to PM me their answer???? emoticon-0100-smile.gif

I started off in the cubs, but HATED those STUPID garters with the green bits on them, then I attended NTC (Nautical Training Corpe) now known as sea cadets, then after I was in the NTC, I left for sea scouts and on trying to obtain my quartermasters bade by looking after the ship's stores for a 4 month period, THREE weeks before I completed the task, I went of during half-term holidays and got hit by a car breaking my left leg in 3 places.

I never did get my badge, and the task was completed by a boy called Justin, who I grew to HATE soooo much for robbing me of my rightful accolade.

Justin, if you're reading this and you went to 4th east Grinstead sea scouts, then I HATE you and you're a dirty rotten scoundrel!!!!! emoticon-0183-swear.gif

My Scout is pre FL, I've also had a Yeti courtesy car for a few days. I noticed no difference in interior quality. The Octavia now has a new interior so unless this new one isn't as good I'd be hard pressed to tell you which is better.

Not sure why you'd want an Elegance spec Scout when in standard guise it is already better specced than the Elegance?

Was not the case a few months ago when we went to spec one up with James at Allams. Nearly everything had to be added as an option - that I now have as standard on my Yeti.

Off Road Button on a scout yet?

Do you mean the L&K rather than the Elegance? Unlike the Yeti the Elegance isn't the top spec Octavia.

The usual cost options; sunroof, leather, xenon's, sat nav, maxidot etc. are all extra on both the Scout and Elegance.

The Scout actually gets over the Elegance; sunset privacy glass, 17" alloys, aluminium dash inserts, chrome kick plates, hill hold control, auto lights, stainless steel pedals / tail pipes and floor mats (and of course raised ride height, 4x4 and under body protection).

A L&K specced Scout would be nice but the DSG diesel Scout is already the most expensive Octavia in the range.

From what I remember the elegance spec on an Octavia is roughly equivalent to an SE Yeti, with the L&K Octy being the closest the Octy gets to the Yeti Elegance spec.....confusing....

I used to have a 2006 Octavia 2.0TDI L&K DSG Estate which had leather & electric drivers seat, cruise, auto lights & wipers, came with stream radio/CD (replaced with MFD3) OEM Bluetooth (retrofitted). The only things it didn't have were xenons.

Where as my Yeti Elegance has all that as standard apart from the Columbus and the electric drivers seat which were options and a few other options that I added. Letting it park it's self is amazing every time I use it (several times a week emoticon-0136-giggle.gif)

Just to be clear, the interior quality of the Scout is first rate, absolutely no quibbles with the car at all. My comment was regarding the design of the interior (which is always going to be a very personnal thing), but I feel the Yeti has a more modern feel to it and certainly the Elegance spec (of Yeti) is really well equiped. On the Scout I spec'd it with side airbags, Xenons, multi-function wheel with Bluetooth, all of which were standard fit on the Yeti, not to mention the leather and other bits and bobs.

I swapped cars for financial reasons, but if I had to buy again tomorrow, I'd be hard pressed to choose between the 2, as I really like them both (or a Superb Estate, if I could figure out how to get it in my garage!).

Leather, Xenons and Maxidot all standard on a Yeti Elegance, as is Auto lights, auto wipers and DRLs. All three the later from memory being options on the Scout. It was James at Allams that pointed this anomaly out to us (when we were pricing a Scout to buy instead of the V5 we got in the end) - no Scout Elegance have-it-all-standard spec. It is not something I'm making up.

As to the Scout and Yeti interior. They are both classy in my book. The only thing I don't like in the Scout is the naff silver surround around the radio and HVAC controls. The rest is to my eyes and fingers just the same as a Yeti's and I'd happily live in either.
