Engine idling RPM below 1000RPM

Featured Replies

Hello there,

Hope some nice people can help.

I own a 2006 Fabia Estate 1.4 16V engine code BBZ. Aside from some other problems I am having with EGR valves, oxygen sensors and the like, when sitting idling the RPM displayed is generally below 1000RPM (800-900 I would estimate). Now I am sure in the past it has been above 1000 RPM but I am not entirely sure. Can anybody tell me what a 'normal' idling RPM for this make and model should be or can it vary? I am actually having problems with an error code for the Engine RPM Sensor G28 (intermittent) so it would be logical to assume if the idling RPM is low the sensor could be fault?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers!

Mike

800-900rpm sounds about right

Thanks Chris. So if 800-900 RPM is normal if I had indeed seen at around say 1100 RPM would that then indicate something wasn't quite right or can idle RPM vary depending on engine temperature i.e between starting from cold and having been on a long run?

Cheers,

Mike

If the ambient temperature is low, the initial idle speed may be above 1000 rpm, dropping down to the normal idle speed as the engine warms up.

Agreed with #2 and #4 above. The only time I'd be worried would be if I was showing a hot idle over 1_000rpm.

Do you have your air con on a lot? I know in my old mpi the idle increased to 1000-1100 when the ar con was on. maybe you saw it with and with out ac on.

just a thought
