Pigeon and plastic rant

Featured Replies

Hit a pigeon this morning, sure it was drunk instead of flying straight and level it decided to swoop down in front of me. Was pretty cool with the puff of feathers everywhere.

Checked for damage when I got to work and couldn't find owt till tonight. Switched my lights on and found the left beam pointing downwards. Took the headlight out tonight and found all the plastic holders all broken off no chance in fixing it. Seriously what's the fad with using plastic for everything? With all my old cars nowt broke when you hit something apart from maybe the glass which was a matter of taking the clips off and putting a new one in. Even all the clips for the Indicator have all broken off! Was only doing 30mph, hit one in the sierra doing 70mph and there was no damage what so ever, stupid plastic!

PS anyone nearby have a cheap passenger headlight and indicator for sale?

I hit a pigeon on monday,it bounced off my windscreen(thought with the bang it was coming through it!!!) poor sod was that big that it left it to late to take off from the road, thankfully no damage to my car, just a nice pigeon sized mucky imprint on my screen. No idea what happened to it,didnt see it in my mirror as i drove on. I was doing around 50mph. :o

I guess they use plastic to keep costs and weight down, and it's probably got something to do with safety too (front crumple zone).

Just be glad you don't have xenon lamps, because I bet those units are considerably more cash!

My dad did the same thing with a pheasant. Boshed it hard but didn't notice any damage till he popped the hood at home. All the plastic tabs had broken off the lamp unit, with no chance of repair. So he had the same problem of having to buy one new headlight unit. PITA!

Did you manage to get the pigeon's insurance details? He'll probably try to claim for whiplash. Uninsured pigeons tend to be more of a flight risk though, so you might never hear from him again.

You wont belive this but the pigeon was some sort of a magician! and it disappeared in a puff of feathers! I was seriously impressed that he could do that when drunk!

Same thing happened to me, going down a country lane to work, the silly sod launched itsself from a hedge and tried to cross in front of me.

It disappeared from view, as I thought "good I missed it" there was a sickening thud and I couldnt see the road for feathers, looked iin the mirror

and no bird. Got to work expecting the worse, but nothing, it must have hit the plastic grill, there was just a few bits of skin and feathers sticking out between the fins.

It didnt get as far in as the rad' luckily.
