[SOLD] 5x112 312mm Front Brake Upgrade kit - £100

Featured Replies

Ended up getting a complete front & rear kit sourced and fitted, so these are surplus to requirements. Can get photos of the parts if needed.

Kit includes calipers, carriers, discs and pads. Not sure how much use the discs and pads have seen before I bought them, from memory they're perhaps half worn? Again, can get photos of this if needed.

Calipers are not painted. Just a standard 'metal' colour ;)

£100, plus post/courier

Could look into postage options, although I'd much rather go for collection or meet-up as the overall set weighs around 30Kg!

Not sure how much interest there'll be on here, as they'd most suit a lower spec Octy2; obviously the vRSes run these as standard. But thought I'd start here before moving to other forums! I can say they make an excellent upgrade to a PD140 though... especially a remapped one :)

Cheers,

Steve.

Hmmm! At a guess I would say the GT has 288mm, so I could be tempted by these. Have you got any pictures mate? And is it a straight forward swap or will I need to buy anything else?

Lee.

Pagey the GT is 288mm and all you would need to do is swap the carriers and discs and pads no need to remove the caliper its sooo easy mate.

Thanks for that, so are the calipers the same on a 288mm disc as a 312mm? I thought they would be larger!

Hi guys - as said, the caliper is in fact the same on the 288mm setup (which I can confirm as well the GT is fitted with). It surprised me too, but I suppose caliper size and piston config is only one part of brake design.

I ended up swapping everything when I did mine, as they were a nicer colour ;)

Will get you some photos later Pagey :)

Thanks mate, I have got the opportunity of a complete set of GTi brakes from a 55 plate car, they are a cracking price but the guy reckons I will need new discs all round imminently so kinda defeats the object. :(

Ah yes, have seen that set on mk5golfgti :)

Very good price for a complete set, but as you say - needs consumables! So overall, probably the right price for everything bar discs & pads

As said over in your other thread, I've not been able to get photos yet - but should get those on Sat, if not before.

Cheers,

Steve.

Right, sorry for the delay. Some photos for you.

Taken with my phone, as I didn't have my DSLR with me, so some haven't come out quite as well as expected. Apologies for that.

Also, as you'll see there is some surface rust and they do need a bit of cleaning up. They've been in garage storage for nearly a year you see.

Hope this helps. Anything else, let me know.

Cheers,

Steve

Could I use the calipers and carriers for a fabia vrs 312mm up grade?

  • Author

Not sure James. Think the caliper and carrier design, and associated fixings, might well be different on these, compared with the more normal 312mm upgrade for the Fabia.

I'll try and find out if they do I'll take them.

Bump :)

Just reading back through these thread, and I was wondering technically all I need is a set of 312mm discs and carriers and I can effectively complete the conversion on the GT, or am I missing something?

And have a bump.....

Calipers are the same apparently, but most people just swap the whole lot over, or buy the upgrade 'kit' and only use the carriers and discs (prob changing the pads at the same time as they'll have worn in accordance with a 288mm disc) - as it can be tricky just getting the carriers on their own sometimes.

I wonder if the carriers are available from the stealers? Had know luck searching for some on the bay. I already have new pads for the vRS but I don't think I need them yet.

Received a new set of discs and pads for the rear of the GT today, I thought I would take the opportunity to hammerite the bells and around the rim - talk about anti climax, they don't look any different after 2 coats!

Might well get them direct. No idea on cost though! Could look for a PN on them tomorrow if you like? This isn't helping my sale mind you! ;)

Have another free bump and why not ask bond007 for a price on the carriers alone from TPS?

I reckon the pads are different between 288 and 312, but I might be wrong.

I was thinking of doing this upgrade and reckoned I needed carriers, discs, pads and dust shield and could reuse the original calipers. In theory, you should need a slightly longer brake hose, but probably OK with the standard. I suppose the only way of knowing for sure is trying it out and seeing if there is any strain on the hose when on full lock and full suspension droop.

Sorry Wardy - not helping you out here am I!

Not sure about the pads but if the calipers are the same (I have compared the 2 and apart from colour they are the same) I would assume the pads will be also....

I would have these off Steve for £100 posted. ;)

You are right - just checked the Mintex catalogue and for 288 and 312mm they list the MDB2604 pads.

Couldn't do them for that much. Would do £100 plus courier for you though.

Do they really weigh 30kg?

Yep! Remember sending the Fabia 288mm kit and that was 28Kg.

If it is of any help I am driving to Acton (NW London) on the afternoon of Sunday 21st August and will be in Acton all week until the Friday.

Seeing as I will probably meet up with Steve b4 then to give him his glow plugs, I could courier them down if you can make it in to London to collect them one evening?

That's bloody decent of you, but for the cost of petrol to NW London it would probably be more than a courier.

Edit: Based on the dimensions 400mm x 400mm x 400mm I can get a courier on the case for £15.

It is the weight that will kill it on courier costs though.

If you want me to bring them most of the way PM me in the next week or so - I am hoping to pick the glow plugs up on Thursday or Friday (mechanic availability permitting) so will try and meet up with Steve the following week.
