Xenons or Esp

Featured Replies

Need your help guys!

After being told I should expect 1st March the dealer is now sayin late March because it had to be a factory order because they couldnt get hold of one with ESP. (I ordered black magic with ESP) So now I'm thinking shall I just chnage my order to one with just Xenons and black magic because I preume they could get hold of one of them pretty quick because Xenons are quite popular.

What do you guys think? I can only afford one or the other an I'm peed off waiting for it now! But I don't know whether it's worth waiting for ESP? Is it really worth it?

Thanks for your views

Ask your dealer what specification Fabia vrs they can get hold of. in your chosen colour, should be fairly simple for them.

I would go for the options you want not just get options for the sake of it.

I've not got ESP on the Fabia so cannot comment about its value.

Like dsemuk, I don't have ESP so I can't comment on it, but you'll definately get more use out of the Xenons than out of ESP.

Like above I don't have ESP. But I give Xenons a big

Xenons are great, but you can uprate normal bulbs, and I can't imagine xenons avoiding a nasty accident.

Xavier had xenons but not ESP, make of that what you will.....

Funny that different countries have different options. Germany has xenons and ESP standard.

Got ESP by default somehow. We weren't particularly bothered about it and would not pay

Octy RS is not top of the range, it's an ambiente with part leather \ part pvc.... guess Fab RS is positioned in middle spec wise in the same way?

totally agree, xenons aren't gonna stop you hitting a wall even worse another car

Oooooh. Or should I say Ouuuuuuch? ;)

I did have xenons and swore by them, and I'm not saying that due to the gadget / look, I'm saying that due to the performance you get out of them.

When driving conditions are poor, they truly excel. Having said that though, as Ian may have been implying, they could give you a sense of invulnerability

I don't think ESP would have helped me out. I put it down to shoddy tyres. I'd love to try and replicate what occured though in a wet empty car park with ESP and see what it does :)

My new furby has neither :( only cruise as an option.

lol was not implying anything re xenons, just recalled that you hit something slippy that you did not expect, as any of us can do, and it caught you out...

I have hit solid ice in the shadows when the road is dry \ clear and all I have noticed is ESP flashing, not even felt the car step out.

No one can say if ESP would have avoided your accident, but I'm sure as you hit the diesel you would have swapped xenons for ESP and given it a shot at it?

My Octy has both :P The xenons are great and I wouldn't be without them. The ESP is there if I ever need it............................

I'd go for Xenon's and I'd never buy another car without them, remember you also get headlight washers as standard.

Unless you drive like a complete loon are you not going to reap the benefit of ESP. As long as you are careful or extremely unlucky you're unlikely make use of it.

gotta love xenons

I posted this on vortex back in 2002, I had only had the car a month....

1) travelling on a fast sweeping left hand bend' date=' "A" road, doing about 70ish, light traffic on other side, half way through bend faced with a golf coming the other way, alongside the traffic, on my side of the road! Braked v v hard and swerved left as he swerved half into traffic, I put two wheels on the verge (rough grass!) and then swerved back, all the time the ABS (and my heart) pumping very rapidly. car remained VERY stable throughout, no fuss, I had to pull over to get my heart started once more and let the adrenaline level drop. Resisted temptation to turn around and give chase, just happy that I escaped it. Head on with a golf would have hurt, airbags or not!

Things were a little too busy at that precise moment to be looking at the instrument binacle saying "ooh, the ESP light is flashing" but I'm guessing at some point given the speed \ harsh braking \ split surfaces combination it had a hand in keeping me in the direction I wanted throughout.

As for pricing up a Fuby with toys - well I'm pretty close there  - didnt get 3rd headrest or the sat nav, but as per my sig, most of the other toys.

Probably NOT the most cost-effective, true, but still below 14k OTR and all that. I still think it's superb value for money though. A more basic spec is better value for money, no doubt about it. ESP should be standard on the vRS imho. Don't know why it isn't.

Although I may be proved wrong, I have a distinct feeling at least half of that extra cost is markup...

So if you get ESP does it just replace the ASR button?

Also when ESP flashes on near the speedo, is it just the same flashy thing you get when ASR comes on?

Yes, and yes...

But ESP does come with a matching crocodile skin D+G handbag.... which you dont get with ASR.

Paul, ESP would have prevented you throwing your RS in a ditch...

No it wouldnt.. winter tyres and 20mph less might have... esp would have just blinked at me as i bent the rim.....
