Inappropriate driving threads

Featured Replies

It's a shame to see this ban come into place, i think i watched the 20-90mph video about 15times... it was very entertaining.

but ultimately i understand why moderators want to ban it and all the arguing in the world won't help!

still it's one less thing to like about the Site.

For everything else... There's youtube and personal photo/video hosting. (picasa/google+/facebook?)

But having said that I think that Ross and Luke do make the Fabia I section more interesting, so I hope they are not put off by this small amount of moderation.

Yes, they may push the boundaries a bit sometimes. But they are also quite entertaining in general.

 best comment so far

I feel at a disadvantage having missed the threads completly however this is very much my view point as well.

I see Ross and Luke's threads in the Fabia setion and some make me thinik "god those guys love their cars and have created awesome machines" other times I see a thread and think "oh deary me" but usually have a laugh, shake my head and move on. I can do that because i'm just a member; however admin/mods have to take a different view and try to control the content of the site.

We all love our cars and c0cking about in them is all part and parcel of that

However Briskoda does have to moderate content, so as CT17 says when the boundries are pushed a slap on the wrists might have to be accepted

I think the mod's know of Luke's and my age and are discriminational towards the youth.

I think you are partially correct here,

when you have a few more years under your belt you will (hopefully) realise that driving is a privilege and not a right, certain things are deemed to be un-acceptable whilst driving on the road.

I seriously suggest you get into some form of motorsport so you can still get your kicks, but in a more controlled and safer environment.

Interesting one this...

My view is that both sides of this "argument" need to calm down a bit.

First off we've all done daft things in cars, particularly when young.

It's just that in todays modern age it's easy and the norm to make your exploits

public using forums and chat rooms. I'm pretty sure that if such a thing

had existed when I was going through my donut and handbrake skid years (19-22)

I'd have been doing the same thing. I'm not excusing it I'm just trying to

look at it with some perspective. Part of being young is thrillseeking

and pushing the boundaries and I think if we are all completely honest

we'd have to admit that we've done similar things at some point in our lives...

Haven't we?? But some are deliberately antagonising the more sensitive members

on here and then complaining that they are discriminated against when they get the

rise they were after. "Because they can..."

I recently attended a speed awareness course (36 in a 30... So I'm no angel either... )

and they referred to drivers who are out there rushng about as "Johnny Spitfire"

which I thought summed it up in a nutshell.

Inevitably, we all calm down as we get older, sometimes it takes a trigger sometimes it

happens more organically. It took a trigger to slow me down.

That happened when one of my best mates was killed in a car crash back when I was 22

On that occasion he wasn't larking about, he was driving to work.

January morning, dual carrigeway, black ice, lamp post... you know the rest.

This was made worse by the fact that I worked at the same place at the time and was

about 5 minutes down the road behind him. I saw the blue lights up ahead and

recognised the car immediately and stopped to try and help. But it was too late.

Seeing someone you were out having a pint with only 2 days previous sitting there

dead in his obliterated car is enough to turn the strongest of stomachs and the idea

that I was invincible or immortal quickly vanished.

It instantly occured to me that but for the grace of god it might have been

me being extinguished prematurely and I calmed down my crazy ways.

I was a pall bearer at the funeral and having your dead mate in a box on

your shoulder is quite the sobering experience. :(

However,

There are two clear sides to this debate.

There is a section of the Briskoda community that get their knickers in a twist

when somebody spells a word wrong let alone jumps a humpbacked bridge.

They are usually slightly older and have mortgages, wives and chldren.

Let's call these people "Johnny Cardigan" for good measure.

(At 38 myself, with a mortgage and "wife" Sadly, I'm probably closer to being one of these)

Exploits like this are a red rag to such members and this is what ultimately

gets threads pulled and photos removed as the powers that be have no real

choice on which "side" to take. Ultimately, to the mod team the good public image

of the site has to be maintained above all other things,

I do also think there is a bit of over sensitivity on this side of the argument.

A knee jerk "auto intolerance" of anything that isn't mildly dull.

Some members automatically adopt a "telling off the kids" attitude.

You can almost see them at home telling their 18 year old daughter to go

upstairs and get changed into something less revealing before turning back

to their computer and ripping into some poor sod because perhaps he happened to put a

mildly offensive sticker on his car or some other equally insignificant act of which they

don't approve. So while they are on a roll he gets it in the neck as well.

Almost anything can get you flamed by these folk.

From text speak to wheelspins and anything in between.

I'm surprised they can't see they are being deliberately dug out and falling

for it every single time.

You often see this sort of thing in the natural world.

See if you can see any similarities in this scenario.

There are Lion cubs sodding about with the big lions tail.

He puts up with it for a bit but he's too old and intolerant to take it for very long.

He's the big Lion after all :wonder: and it's clearly dangerous to mess with his tail.

Eventually he snarls at the cubs and they leg it doing the lion equivalent

of giggling because they've just sucessfully managed to wind the big lion up.

What's really going on here is as old as the hills.

1. (Usually) Younger person does something risky (Like they do....)

2.(Ususally) Older person gets all narked by whatever they did and has a go (Like they do...)

3. Young person takes offence at preaching and does something madder to get a further rise from

older person just for sport.

4. Older person doesn't see this and swallows the bait and spouts futher criticism

5. See 3 and repeat until time ends.

Quite a big 2ps worth but thats how I see it.

Excellent post. A friend of mine also died young, I am a quick driver but daftness is kept for trackdays

Do you know what i find really funny

Luke is Keeping a record of Illegal actions he has taken on public highways which will stand up as very good evidence in court.

He is a) Very friendly with the local coppers B)Very lucky c)very stupid.

I say keep it up luke  will make an apposing layers life soo easy in court :giggle:

Sorry Grr666 your post was too long dude didnt get a chance to read it all (at work), prob made some very valit points from both sides though as i know you can be a good person and very level headded when need to be.

Gone are the days when all skodas are driven by oaps lol :p

But if a video shows no proof of it bring on a track, equally it's not proof it was on a road. Not much use in court tbh!

Matt

Watching the progress of Lukes, Rosseys and CT17 cars are by far the most interesting thing to read on here lol its good to see how far you can push the fabia.

But the moderators do have to control the site so i suppose there has to be some rules lol

Missed seeing the picture of the jumping car....just read the whole topic....would someone pick me up from the floor??!!

I totally agree with quite alot of the comments posted above!!!!

I have in the past (when I was younger) done some silly driving on quiet back country roads late at night.....(I know the roads very well up here).......BUT I am not stupid enough to video it and post it up for all to see!!!! Here you go your Honour I'm guilty.....case closed!!!!

I think if some one wants to jump, donut, speed, raz etc their car...fine....very funny to watch (just look at all the UTUBE stuff....crashes, engines blowing up etc).

BUT as with the stuff that I see on UTUBE.....I really don't like it when stupid stuff is done on an open public road....this could kill some innocent person!!!!

If you want to do some stupid stuff (and risk killing yourself) either do it and don't boast/video it......or do it in a controlled manner...eg on a private road or on a closed public road, or race track, airfield etc and video prove that this is so!!!!

P.S the only type of "silly driving" that I condone is finding an empty carpark late at night in winter to practice skid/slid control....I've seen the local police up here just keeping a "eye" on people inc boyracers doing just this in the big carparks late at night!......the nearest official skid pan is over 120miles away.....and you try getting to it in winter when all the roads are skid pans!!!!!....yeah I know go in summer :p B)

Sorry but dont agree, these mods they are doing have all be done before. the only things they are pushing is the limits of the law (breaking sometimes)

Matt

No proof of it, no. But given the number of miles of track in the UK compared to the number of miles of road, the implication is that you are most likely to be on a road. Plus possibly things like date/time embedded in the video/pictures (possibly even GPS location if available but I can't remember if you can embed that into videos or just EXIF for images) then it all adds up to being "beyond reasonable doubt" that it happened on a road. No one has to prove things in court 100%, it's the "beyond reasonable doubt" that's a clincher.

For example, you could say in your defence "I was on a track" but then if the embedded data says you took the video at, say, 10 at night (it's still pretty light then), it says you weren't in the vicinity of a track (possibly tracked by GPS data), there might be no other car noises in the video (at a track you'd probably expect to hear several other engines), then I would say that proves "beyond reasonable doubt" that you weren't on a track.

Fabdavrav I'll post it up later or pm you my Facebook name it's all there

I would like to clarify this is a bold statment made and is only an opinion of myself, and my own jugement.

The most annoying partnis my image was removed from a competition where the criteria fornthe picture was sporty and my image was titled high jump. My picture clearly fitted the criteria but still gets removed. Thanks mod's. Excellent judgement. I like how it wasn't removed when I posted the other image of somebody else's car jumping.

All of the sudden pm's asking for my Facebook name show there's great interest in the pictures and videos I do. Thanks for my support guys.

At the end of the day, it's car enthusiasts having fun with their cars.

I like to see what others are up to and share a few things about my car.

Not looking to break the law.

I think I can imagine it!! :giggle:

P.S. on the other side to the coin......

Car mags like EVO etc also have pictures of the cars on the opposite sides of the roads (when in the UK), jumping over bumps et etc...and ALL on open public roads, abit tho' on quiet back country roads....and they print nice big pictures and descriptions of where in the UK they test drove the cars....so why is what ROS53Y did any worse/better????

Could it be because they have far more experiance of the cars/situations etc, etc,....also if they 4uckup they are going to get a rollacking from the car manufacture if they do and risk their job????

Also you can "jump" a car at "lowish" speed (less than legal limit speed for road)....there is a "B" (60mph legal limit) road near me with a long straight.....in the middle there is a railway track with a humpback bridge over it......hit it at over 45mph and the front end goes light....the amount of people that I have seen "jump" their cars is unreal....there is only the humpback brige warning triangle (partially hidden by a tree).....so I could get a mate to stand in the layby next to the bridge and photo me "jumping" the car at 45 to 50mph.....all legal and above board......would I then get flammed if I submitted this for the photo competion under movement????

Yes, the "Movement" competition finished. We're on "Sporty" now. ;):giggle::rofl:

You would get a stern telling off by the law if caught as you should drive within the speed limit and for the conditions of the road, you know if you take that hill at 45 you will get 2 wheel lift? then you intentially do not have control of the car which amounts to wreckless driving.

When it was icy, did you drive at 30 through town (a 30 zone)? i would imagine you topped 10mph, or an avg of 3mph as you knew if you drove any faster you would loose control and cause an accedent/crash your car.

Ross remember that the competitions are organised by me and me alone; and have had no input from any of the "powers that be".

Also worth noting that I am just another member. I have no powers here, am not a sponsor, am not a mod, am not adminthat means even I thought that picture was massively off topic or against the rules I'd have no way of removing it!

......would I then get flammed if I submitted this for the photo competion under movement????

In theory you would face the same moderation as Ross has received

I have to agree with the mods on this one and even though i didnt see the original photo i have have re-created it via my extensive graphic/art skills. Artistic skills linky

Was that on a race track???? :giggle:

I'm really starting not to care.
