Kerry's new Golf GT Tdi 140

Featured Replies

Well after nearly a year of hunting and some sound advice both here and on the mkvgolfgti forum we have finally found a Golf GT to replace swmbo's Focus (the work horse) the car not swmbo! :giggle:

Some of you who have been following my previous thread will know a fair amount about the car anyway, but for those who don't this is the spec:

2007MY Golf GT Tdi PD140, Graphite Blue Pearl, 44k, 1 owner from new with a fvwsh.

Standard equipment includes auto on lights, rain sensitive wipers, auto dimmer rear view mirror, electric windows front and rear, electric/heated wing mirrors.

Optional extras - MFD2 DVD Sat Nav with ipod prep, highline display, centre armrest, electric slide and tilt sunroof.

So anyway, we left home yesterday and around 1.5 hours and 100 miles later we arrived at the sellers, although the car looked good the only way I can describe it is 'neglected' the owner has been using his new car since January leaving the Golf to his son who was doing between 10-20 miles a week. Looking beyond the accumulated kak, the bodywork was tidy, and structurally it seemed sound. On to the test drive - a stage 1 vRS it ain't but tbh, its not to shabby, I ran through the various checks recommended by members and all seemed fine (no strangled owls under the bonnet). When we got back to the guys place he handed my a document wallet which contained every receipt/invoice since he originally purchased the car. This included an invoice from the stealers for a cam belt change in February!

After a cuppa and a chat with his son about KW Coilovers and the vRS etc B) we began negations, to be fair for the condition, mileage and spec it was cheap but hey ho when in Rome...........

.........2nd offer excepted and he threw in a nearly new set of Thule 754 aero roof bars. :)

Ok enough talking, below are the pictures before and after a bit of TLC.

So far so good, well happy with it.

What’s next?

During the clean up today I removed the mud flaps, never been a fan and esthetically I think it looks far better without them, changed the standard halogen bulbs for a set of Ring Xenon Max (previously in the vRS).

Imminent - replacement headlights with black inners (ordered) gloss black wrap for the grille area, GTi rear silencer, a GTi front and rear valance and side skirts which will be colour coded. Last but not least a remap! B)

Hmmmm, whats the difference? :giggle:

Looks very nice

Is there any differance in the above pic?

+400 bhp. :giggle:

Makes it look more 'sporty' in my eyes. This is the old rear lights and they just look out of place if you ask me - I also fitted a VW Sharan Ariel.

They aren't to everyones taste mind you.

Lights still look the same to me :dull:

It's only a small change. I will take some better pictures for you later once I finish at work -

iirc they are slightly darker.

Very tatty before, but you scrubbed up well, a neighbour bought a VRS estate from a main dealer and the engine bay looked like that, he said they don't clean the engine bays, 10 mins I cleaned it for him, could not have him letting the side down

It's a bit OCD, but I like a clean engine bay, believe it or not I achieved that result with a couple of wet wipes, a tooth brush and a few squirts of WD-40.

Very good Sir. Nice colour that, suits the Mk5 well.

Planned mods, emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Looks like a good days work there, the GT is a good model, been driving around in one for a fair old while as we have one at work, it's the same but black with heated leather, quick and reliabale.........

Not OCD at all like I said I cleaned a neighbours as his was dirty, I would have snow foamed it though

Two reasons why I didn't:

1. It started raining so it was easier to strip parts and clean them in the garage.

2. I ran out of snow foam doing the car. :giggle:

Nice looking motor and a good tidy up there squire

Update: The GT grille will be receiving a spot of gloss black wrap tomorrow (weather permitting) and I will be collecting the GTi rear valance afterwards. :D

Headlamps with black inners on order.

On the case.

Wrapped the grill today, not overly happy with the result, and tonight it seems to have shrunk in a couple of places on the edges. Think I will leave it for now but I will get it sprayed when the GTi valance goes in, as I'm going to get the recess part done in gloss black. B)

Didn't get chance to take photos of the brakes yet unfortunately. Might be on the weekend if that's OK.

I have to say, despite my previous reservations the oil burner is rather good. Obviously it needs a map for various reasons, on fuel consumption its brilliant - 480 miles done, 1/4 tank left.
