Extremely warm......

Not sure which picture you mean mate, the number plates are blanked on all of them?

More modding, got a new GTi front splitter which I thought I would have a go at colour coding. The guy who did my bumper gave me some advice and through Invicta Paints I got a couple of tins of paint made and some top notch lacquer.

Firstly I sanded the texture off with 240 grit of my random orbital, then hit it with some 500 wet n dry. Applied 2 coats of plastic primer, once this was dry I hit the entire thing with 1500 grit then a coat of primer followed by 3 coats of each colour and lacquer. Left it overnight then this morning run 2000 grit over it again then completed the finish with my DA polisher. And the results -

Unfortunately the pictures don't do it justice, the finished product looks perfect, imho of course.

Blimey, you've been busy! Great work

No worries on the plates; when I first looked at them, the first photo still had the plate visible on it, at an angle. See you've sorted that now

Cheers,

Steve

I'm loving it mate, well happy with the results, if I'm honest I would have done the valance as well but obviously hindsight is a wonderful thing. ;)

I haven't changed the picture but when I looked at it on photobucket the plate was visible, weird!!! All sorted now though.

Yep, was good to see you've got a Manchester vehicle :p

I was just thinking it looked a bit manky ;)

Haha - it's a good job I know you and won't get all grumpy and upset now isn't it? :D

Northern FTW

Hmmm! When I saw the 'M' prefix I was keen to make sure it wasn't stolen or worse.... :p

Oh god, I can feel another 3 day ban coming!

It was ment to be today but mechanic got a bit tied up. I may hang on for a complete back box. Watching one on eBay from a mk6 TDi which apparently fits.......

Might have missed your exhaust plan matey - what's the way forward there?

Pipewerx? ;)

Pipewerx? ;)

I wish.....

Initially I have got a nice tasteful pair of chrome tailpipes (very OE looking). My mechanic was planning on welding a piece of pipe on to one of the outlets then add a bridging piece to add the second trim, so effectly one would be working and the other would be a dummy pipe, the 2nd original tail pipe would still expell behind the bumper as standard. This does sound a bit complicated but it is definitely the easiest option due to the acute angle the pipes would need to bend (and to make it look good enough to please my OCD-ness :giggle:).

Obviously this is all temporary until I can source a complete back box from either a GT170, TSi or GTi. Should a reasonably priced performance cat back crop up then I will possibly go for that.

Anyway, I need to start concentrating on the vRS again, hopefully getting a miltek DP this month and going to stage 2. B)

Update:

Finally got the exhaust sorted, my mechanic did a great job, but being Mr.OCD I wasn't 100% happy with the alignment of the trims and also they stuck out a bit far, so after an hour an a half of work which included completely removing the bumper to get a grinder on the pipes he welded on, here is the result........

I think it looks good and definitely passes for OE but I am still on the hunt for an OE Tsi/Tdi/Gti back box for the true OE finish (unless a performance one crops up).

Edit: Forgot to add the picture of the rear badge, just added a bit of gloss black vinyl to refresh the tired grey inserts -

I've also had the rear brake discs and pads changed, painted silver hammerite around the edge and on the bell/hub prior to fitting. No pictures though as it's a bit boring.......

Exhaust looks great mate. Not too dis-similar to my Pipewerx emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Great work. Badge looks emoticon-0103-cool.gif too.

Latest addition -

Fitted a dash top vent today, this was initially standard equipment on the GT/GTi but when cost saving measures were introduced this was one of the things to go, replaced by a nasty looking tray with rubber insert. Well thanks to a member on the mk5 forum who has an unnatural addiction to trolling eBay looking for anything mk5 related I managed to get a brand new unit for half the price stealers are charging. Imo I think it makes the space looks 100% better.

Just need to get a sunlight sensor to fill the gap at the back.

Also cleaned up the rear calipers and painted them gloss black, no pictures but they look much better, hope to do the fronts in the next few days (weather permitting) will post some before and after shots.

Whats a sunlight sensor?

Stop it you are makiing me look lazy :giggle:

Weird that they didn't fit a dashtop box, like the Octy. Seems a bit of a waste of space...

It's to do with the A/C, google it to find an accurate explanation.

Another cost cutting exercise, if the tray had had a lid I would of left it.
