Almost, its made by a company called 'Fortress' available in B&Q, the same as Hammerite but cheaper, and yes applied with a no.10 flat artist brush.

I picked up a set of 3 S/Steel, brass and nylon wire brushes for £2.50 and used them, you know what I never even thought to see if it was heat resistant........ Only time will tell I s'pose!

Received a lower mount insert yesterday, hopefully fitting today, also ordered a Darkside Developments EGR Delete kit.

Although its registered in her name, I use it the most for work, if we go long distance on a day out I drive plus the vRS is the family motor, so if we take that I drive it...... :p

Tbh honest its only temporary until I get either an OE GTi/GT170 or 'something else' on there......

The STS is sitting in the garage and the standard map is being tweaked as I type and I have been reliably informed that there shouldn't be any more smoke unless I proper bury the loud pedal, the EGR delete will be here next week and that will reduce smoke also.

Darkside Developments EGR delete kit arrived Saturday -

Had a spare couple of hours last night so I had a crack at fitting it. Not as easy as it looks, especially when trying to undo the bolt at the back of the unit, space is extremely limited. But after a lot of patience, success -

I OE valve was a bit crusty but not as bad as some I've seen -

First impressions, the car doesn't feel as sluggish when pulling away and no CEL.........yet.

Afaik, it will increase emissions over stock, but by an infinitesimal amount, in fact based on the condition of the EGR valve I removed, the emissions are likely to be improved, this probably answers the question about the MOT also.

There are a couple of types of EGR valves one is electronic, the other vacuum. Mine is the later and apparently it doesn't always throw up a CEL (so far I haven't got one) but any good tuner can map it out should it rear its ugly head. Ben will perform this service as part of the remap deal if and when it happens.
