Tinting rear lights

Featured Replies

Just wondering how this would effect MOT as I am sure its legal but just wanted to know if anyone on here has had it done and show some pictures of it on there car

Pretty sure you have to have leave the rear reflector un-tinted and as long as you can make out the orange of the indicators and the red of the brake lights!

Although I'm sure someone who knows more will be able to confirm

It's a bit of a grey area. The fabia rear lights also incorporate the reflectors, which must be visible. As said above, the indicators must be orange.

Personally I wouldn't bother as with part tinted lights, as it looks crap, and I like the fact that other people can see the back of my car in the dark, but that's just my opinion of course.

the rear of the car needs working reflectors - A part of the light in the Fab

The lights have to produce the correct light, and the correct amount of light too.

So yes you can tint them, but be carefull how you do it.

Use the serch for FlyEye kits ;)

Has any one got a picture of what needs to be left un tinted?

Hi williamson112,

Don't do this (really dark matt tinted film off ebay)

Rear1.jpg

Got pulled 3 times this year never booked but warned - no reflectors 3 times and only once out of the 3 they complained about light output

Did have this set up for a year (dark Lamin-x)

Never got pulled but stuck small reflectors on for the Mot

Also had this setup

VRS_SE05.jpg

This was spray tint covered with lacquer again never got pulled

Now have this setup

Passed the Mot no problem waiting to see if I get pulled by the Police

Its Lamin-x again but this time subtle tint

Hope this helps

The Reflector, go outside with a torch, shine it on your back lights, whichever bit blinds you the most needs to stay reflective. :giggle:

i think its the center red secion. Serously search for Fly Eye kits

I like that last one

It's not seeing the lights in the dark that's the issue, it's seeing them in the day that's the problem! Use some common sense & just do them a little and it should be fine

Matt

when they bring in the latest regulations on the MOT any substance on the lights that affects the light output will be automatic fail. mine are tinted but ive just bought a set of standard rear lights to swap for the MOT.

You could always part tint.

I bought a set of prefacelift clusters as they are easier to part tint

than the later ones.

I used gunsmoke lamin X to do mine.

Mine passsed last MOT lke this no questions asked.

Never been pulled for them either.

Reflectors untinted though.

That's a perfect example of "less is more".

It's exactly what I plan to do to mine, as well as gunsmoke on the headlights. I have some headlight protectors so was considering doing them and removing for mot, but I dont think it would fail with gunsmoke lamin x on the headlighs tbh.

Korban did you take the lights off to fit the Lamin-x ?? I think I'll order the subtle tint as the look mint :) thumbs up here

Yes I did take them off, not a big job and quite easy to apply the film
