The answer my friend is .......

... not blowing in the wind, but ......

.......... probably in the Service Handbook in your Glovebox. ;)

With SKODA documentation being what it is 'Blimey what a good suggestion'.

Ever hopeful ..don't hold your breath.

Seriously, had not thought to check..thanks for suggestion.

'Service Handbook' should be pretty straight forward as there is less to muck up in translation and with varying equipment levels that leads to confusion and errors in the 'Owners Manual'.

Good luck.

I'm interested to read differences in servicing costs.

Claybank Manchester have quoted me "around £185 inc VAT" for my first variable service, pointing out that at 12500 miles, it's now too late for a fixed service, though they said I can change to fixed servicing at any time in the following 10K miles if I wish. Strangely, they didn't ask which model I have, petrol or diesel, so I'm wary of the price quoted being accurate. It would include pick up from home or a courtesy car though.

Having done all my own servicing for the last 10 years or so, I must confess that I'm out of date on main dealer costs, so I was a touch surprised at the price mentioned. It's not by any means a city centre dealership, so I'm guessing they are looking to spend up to an hour and a half plus parts on the service. Does this seem right?

Update:

It looks as though it's probably about the going rate for this area, as Hobins, Manchester quote £195 for exactly the same service with all the same comments. Ouch!

Main dealer rates are in the region of £70 - £110 per hour (ish) for general works.

Servicing often gets quoted on a fixed/menu basis though.

Small saving (£10-£15) can be made by providing your own oil.

I have just been quoted £265 inc VAT from SG Smith in Croydon and £236.88 from Allams for my second service (19,000 miles - 30,000kms) due in 300 miles time.

I have decided to go for the fixed price service plan this time round, as for £299 I get 2 services and a £50 voucher from Skoda UK.

The service according to Allams includes changing the brake fluid. When I questioned this as I though it was 3 years, I was told, for my car it is 2 years, but for newer cars it is 3 years initially.

Well, seeing as Skoda UK are changing it - they are invoiced by the dealer, it doesn't really matter. To me it seems a good deal, basically £250 for 2 services.

I have thought about asking it to be put on variable service and see what kind of mileage it says it will do between services - I can still get it serviced at 30,000 miles if I want.

Not too sure on the mileage with the Yeti, but basing it on the Octavia with variable servicing, it tends to average around 17 - 18k between services.

For £299 and your next 2 services done I would go for the service plan.

How much???

Glad I don't live around there. My second service at 36662 miles was £195.20, including £18 for a headlight bulb.

So for effectively £250 you get two fixed services 12 months apart Inc the brake fluid change? Who is that through, the dealer or skoda uk? My second one is needed next month so if be interested in getting the second and third for £250 (after vouchers) if possible.

Buy it from a Skoda dealer and they set up the paperwork, send you 2 copies, sign one & send back and they send off to Skoda. When it is time for service remind whichever dealer you use that you have the fixed service deal, and when done they invoice Skoda UK. You then get a dictum ent back from Skoda along with the voucher......

That's what I was told today. I purchased the Fixed deal this morning. I will find out soon enough.

I must say that I have an inherent distrust of any 'fixed deal' ever since taking a 10 year fixed rate mortgage back in the 1980s and having rates tumble around me at years 4-5 ..... but that's another story.

However, this Skoda 2 services for £299 does seem to be good value. I think I better talk to my dealer as well.

Hmmm, it does sound like a good deal at face value. Allams still haven't responded to my question on their thread they posted advertising this in their forum a couple of months back so I'll phone the local dealer next week and get it set up if it covers me for the second and third services. :-)

So does that mean that after the first change, everyone is on a 2 year interval, or is it now 3 years?

Claybank Manchester phoned me yesterday to say my brake fluid needs changing before the end of the month (at 2 years). Failure to do so could affect the last year of my warranty as "the vehicle would not them have been maintained an accordance with manufacturer's specification".

So, it's booked in next week. The cost ; £45.00, and can be done in under an hour on a 'while you wait' basis.

I'm having my 2nd & 3rd services done on this. I always ring the dealer. I prefer to talk rather than email if at all possible. Any body with a Skoda can use it, as long as the car is over 90 days. If it is over 3 years old then instead of £50 voucher it includes 2 MOT tests.

Mike

So how does it work if you are on 'variable' regime? i.e. Kevin will be due his 1st service @ 18,600 miles around June this year when he is 18 months old. The Inspection Service will then be @ 36,000 miles / 3 years.

That is my current mileage and I need servicing in 300 miles.....

As to the answer to that question....not sure.

By the way. the small print on the details I posted says it ran out in December 2011, but i was offered the same deal yesterday.

Thinking about it, it should be fine. Assuming the offer is still available in June, take out the policy just before the service and the next service is due within 2 years or 20,000 miles which should cover you. I don't think any Yeti does more than 20,000 miles between services on variable servicing. And if you will take longer than 2 years to get there then I think you may be on the wrong regime.
