A 5 Star Rating *****

I find the noise levels another very subjective point. SOme mags say a car is a quite cruiser while others will say the same car was noisy! Very confusing. My Yeti is a great long distance companion, especially in the quietness/refinement department imo. :)

Great accuracy again from AE I see - '4x4 only available with powerful diesels'?! So my Petrol 1.8 is only 2wd then and Skoda dont offer a low powered 110 TDi with 4 wd now?

Do they mean the engine noise or general wind and road noise.

Because I can't hear the engine over these.

AE mag do seem to be rather big VAG fans.

I do wonder sometimes if it's due to advertising revenue from VAG. Plenty of adverts in AE from VAG most weeks.

I am a subscriber and the quality is going downhill too a bit. Many errors creeping in...

...lots of errors. Its why I cancelled my subscription back in May after recieving it for three years! :wonder:

You appear to be quoting AE. I cannot see where they say, or even suggest, that in the OPs link.

The AE article says that the more powerful diesels are 4WD only, which is true.

You've misquoted the article slightly, and changed the meaning completely around in doing so. It actually says "powerful diesels 4wd only"; meaning that you can't get the powerful (140/170) diesels in a 2wd car, rather than, as your interpretation has it, that you can't get 4wd in petrol or lower powered diesels.

It does actually mention the 1.8 4x4

"If you do a lot of motorway miles, it might be worth avoiding the 1.2 TSI – for all other occasions though it's a fantastic little engine. There's also a 1.4 TSI and a 1.8 TSI unit with 150bhp and four-wheel drive."

"Against : 1.2 TSI is noisy on motorway, powerful diesels 4WD only"

Thats what I read in the above link. I think I did misread its context :wonder:

A. E. have given the Yeti a top 5 star rating. They state, although the 1.2 TSi is a gem it is noisy on the motorway. Not the first choice engine for customers who do lots of motorway miles granted but personally I have not found it at all noisy at speed. Should I book a hearing test :o

As a Superb owner I recently persuaded my wife to test drive a Yeti as she wanted a car with a high seating position. She test drove a 170crd Elegance and loved everything about it except the noise. She claimed it would be impossible to live with it. She subsequently bought the new 5 seat Ford C max 2.0TDCI powershift, it is very refined and I have to admit it is a lot quieter than my Superb 170crd Elegance.
