I GOT LOCKED OUT!

Featured Replies

Hi all

I am hoping someone can shed some light on how this happened. I came out to the car it was raining so i chucked my stuff in the boot got in the car and put my key in the ignition. i then pressed the button to open the boot cause i needed to check something. i got out and shut the drivers door and checked what i needed too in the boot. closed the boot and all the doors locked. bugger I was locked out in the pooring rain 20 miles from home. Luckily a member of family was at home and i used the key fob down the phone trick to get in.

Can anyone explain why all the doors locked. It has never happened before.

cheers for ny ideas in advance. Tom.

I know if you open boot only, it will lock itself after 30 seconds or so, but this is usually killed if you open any of the side doors.... Not sure why in your case it locked itself still. Rule of thumb, keep those keys on your person at all times. :D

This is my interpretation of what has happened.

IIRC there is a safety/security feature that activates around 20 seconds or so after the car is unlocked using the fob unless the key is turned in the ignition. This happens incase you accidently press unlock button on the fob when leaving the car in car park or the like (puuting keys in pocket etc.) so it doesn't remain unlocked.

1. You have opened the car with the remote fob.

2. Put keys in ignition but not turned them.

3. pressed the boot unlock button and opened tailgate.

4. Security feature (as above) activates

5. Closed drivers door (this is now locked by security feature)

6. Indicators will not have flashed as tailgate is open

7. Closed boot, indicators flash and whole car is now locked with keys inside.

et voila!!

Hope that makes sense.

As I said above, NEVER let the keys be off your person until you're sat in it ready to drive away :D

Do what ???? The keyfob transmits a coded digital radio signal, it is not audio and in the voice spectrum - otherwise you would hear it too.

I have a simple spectrum analyser on my scope and pressing my key near it shows 434.55 MHz.

I'm an engineer and don't get that at all. One for Myth Busters I think.

Mine will only lock itself again if no doors are opened within 20 seconds. If a door is opened, if t doesn't lock again and I don't need to put the key in the ignition.

Did you really? I understood that was an urban myth that might have worked many years ago when remote locking used ultrasound.

i Just tried this and it did not lock. i have tried to recreate the same thing and it will not do it. so i just dont get it.

and as for the key fob thing it works for both the fabia and roomie. tried it on my sisters 56 plate passat no luck there. I guess vw has managed to stop this but has not passed on the tech to skoda yet. thank god
