So when is the Yeti's appeal going to fade?

Featured Replies

As above,

X3 BMW?

gulp....Freelander?

but more expensive I suppose?

What else is there to compete?

sigh

A still frustrated non Yeti owner

Resistance is futile. :giggle:

Realistically about six months to a year in my opinion until prices get to sensible levels.

Right now one year old ones are just too expensive. Basically the first owner has had cheap new car motoring and later owners will suffer the depreciation.

Interesting that the other "good value" mfrs, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, produce similar cars to the Yeti but none can match the value for money aspect. Spec each one to the mid range SE 2.0D 4wd, one of the most popular models, and all are more expensive than the Yeti version. The Mistubishi ASX comes quite close but then spoils it with 9,000 mile service intervals. Each are good cars in their own right but until someone matches the Yeti and beats it clearly, as the Yeti did when it came onto the scene, then values will remain high.

Huh!

Some help younzs's are :wonder:

:'(

Okay -

Kia Sportage

Mitsubishi ASX

They would be my alternatives if the Yeti did not exist. I would probably go the ASX as Mitsubishi have a strong history of 4wd and their cars seem pretty hardy. Both are good sizes without falling into the trap of being enormous. You can probably negotiate those down whereas that must be a tough trick with a Yeti.

Lovely car coming up is the new Audi Q3 but you can add mucho £'s over the cost of a Yeti there so that really is a different animal.

Another option is the Octavia Estate 4wd, not the Scout although that is also an option. Not widely publicised but would be a good car.

Competition: the not yet(i) available in the U.K. (late 2012) will be the Dacia Duster, in basic form around £11k, and fully loaded version £16k. Should put the cat among the pigeons!

I could be wrong, but I thought the Dacia was a cheap Renault?

If so that's a good enough reason to avoid to me.

The fact it looks like a lada Niva puts me off.

Although i do hear the niva went rather better than it looked.

yes. it was pretty good offroad. still available new over here. somebody posted a link a while back

According to one online review the Duster is no nonsense, back to basics 4wd car. Nothing fancy, money saved on niceties but with Nissan 4wd and other Renault parts. For those on a budget it seems as though it does a good job. Perhaps Suzuki like?

Yes, I had to go and find one as part of the Briskoda photo game (which no other Yeti owner seems to do...) and so went to the distributors house in South London to get a picture of his demo. :D

Only available in left hand drive.

The Duster is VERY popular in France - the locals clearly prefer it to a genuine Renault, or to Peugeot/Citroen!

The only things I seen that remotely interested me were.

Kia Sportage, just on looks alone. (I think Kia are offering some nice cars these days)

Tiguan 4 Motion CR170 R-Line, (Still not a patch VFM on an Elegance Yeti IMHO)

I only started looking at the Tiguan due to scarcity of the Yeti in CR170 engine.

I saw a Duster on the way to Oxford, a little lower, but the proportion is quite good - got quite a really car look to it!

On a training course earlier in the year over in Belgium, appeared to be very popular in the region I was staying in.

There are millions of Dacia Dusters' or ' Dacia Dustbins' on the road here in France.

They are very popular because of the 'Renault' propaganda machine (they think or probably do, own the motoring press) My last car was a Renault....never again...never..never...never.......

Imagine buying a low cost Renault ?????....

The Dacia is not in the same class as the Yeti...although they do 'suprisingly' beat the Yeti in French car magazines....yawn !!!

Saw a another Yeti today on the road...we gave each other a smug smile.

I've only had my Yeti a week and I am really impressed at the price. Just under £16k for a 3 month old ex demo 110 BHP SE. I've seen 12 month old 10 plates for £18500-just depends how lucky you get. I spotted mine online and dropped a deposit on it before a 320 mile round trip to test drive and again to collect 6 weeks later. Also getting 60 mpg out of it so one happy yeti owner.
