new 1.4tsi engine?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if/when the Yeti will have the twin-charged 1.4tsi with 160 PS and 4wd, as in the VW Tiguan, or is this in the lap of the gods (VW)?

I've not heard any rumours or seen any indications that it will make it across to the Yeti any time soon. 160ps is too close to the normal 1,8 and indeed the new 150ps 1,8tsi Yeti SE Plus engine.

Never going to happen.

But why would you want it when you lucky buggers can buy a 1.8tsi?

You can swap the stock gti/vrs turbo on with no mods and make 99% the same power as a mapped gti/vrs

Or if you feel silly, slap on the K04 from the golf-r or Audi S3, again bolts right on and same results as the for-mentioned vehicles when mapped.

IN A SKODA YETI!!!!!!

I would sell my nuts for one with a DSG gearbox

I'm sure I read recently that the VAG group are turning away from the complexities of the combined supercharger/turbocharger for a simpler low pressure turbo only 1.4?

If they did a 1.8tsi DSG I'd buy one tomorrow and it'd have a lot of bhp shortly after arrival. :)

1.8TSI in the fabia vRS would have been very nice indeed

I thought somebody was already working on that.

Or was that a mkI?

I'd seen exactly the same in several reports. Future 'new' 1.4TSi engines seem likely to be around the 145-150bhp mark with just the turbo for added induction

One thing is for sure is the 1.6 tsi using the same technology variable geometry turbo from the 911 turbo.

Should be a right little rocket :D

Sorry I think you're wrong. The days of big engines in small cars has gone.

Unfortunately because of reducing CO2 ,you might get similar performance but if you want more you'll have to .....chip it

You don't really need big engines anymore as VW are proving.

The 1.2 TSI in the fabia is only 105bhp but really shifts!

My latest car - before the Yeti - was a Scirocco with the famous 1.4 TSI twin-charged engine.

My Yeti is the 1.8 TSI.

Both with 160 HP - and NO doubt that the 1.8 is the better engine.

At speed the 1.4 has no power at low revs - in spite of the compressor.

The 1.8 is much better - but the turbocharged 2.0 TSI - which I had in an Eos - is even better.

Size does matter is my personal conclusion.

All that said, the 1.4 twincharger did have a nice acceleration capacity.

It even sounded nice when I asked for the horsepower.

Then again - during gentle acceleration - there occasionally was a power-drop at the point where the compressor hands over the job to the turbo.

And finally I am afraid that the small engine is too complex over time - too many component that might fail.

Does the 1.4 use a diff turbo to the 1.2 because the 1.2 has loads of low end slug, its like a diesel in fact!

It is said that Audi new 1.8TFSI (the third generation EA888 ) has a output of 125kW and 320 Nm, the new 1.8TFSI will come with new A3 in next year.

I Ithink we can expect a significantly improved new1.4TSI too.

I sold a 1.4 TSI Twin Charged Scirocco for my 1.8 TSI Yeti also and agree with Kim H that the 1.8 is a better engine, much smoother and quieter and with more torque. MPG was slightly better but then the Scirocco was lighter and not 4 x 4.
