SD cards for Bolero radio

Featured Replies

Can anybody tell me how to be able to scroll though albums instead of having to scroll through all the tracks on one before I can get to the next one - I suspect it may be something to do with my method of loading the tracks, just copying them straight onto the SD card, should I have put them in 'files' first?

I just copied CDs onto my laptop (and also downloaded some albums as MP3 files from Amazon) then copied these to the SDHC card. Once you're loaded and playing, there's a button on your screen (bottom right hand corner) says 'selection' or something like that. Touch that, wait for it, should list all the tracks on the album you're listening to. Then go up to the top of the screen and touch the 'file' symbol, again you'll need to pause, but it should change the display to show all the albums by that artist, press it again and (pause) you'll get a full list of artists. You then select the artist you want to listen to and you'll get a display of all the albums you have by that person/band to select from. It's a bit like going back and forward through a file directory in your computer.

  • As stated above the sound quality all depends on the rate your MP3s were made at... even 128 sounds good in a noisy car. You are not in a sound proof room remember. As to your first question: why

I use a PNY 16Gb SDHC card I bought from Play.com in June 2009 in my LE, it works just as well in Betty!. Have not tried the Play.com 16Gb but their 2/4Gb ones work no problem. http://www.play.com/El

  • ^ agreed. It is in a car not your HiFi set up at home, when all is said and done it's perfecting acceptable quality even at 128kbps.

It's 'Simples' - when somebody else knows how to do it !!! Thanks Bobdog, tried it on my 270 mile drive from Cheshire to Norfolk this afternoon - works a treat!!

This link may come in handy for any SD users who'd like to record audio from say their audio sources, like Sky HD boxes (Jools Holland Later, Glastonbury etc), also BD/DVD players. Even find it good for copying audio from Youtube etc :

You simply record like a cassette (to SD or USB) then name the tracks you have recorded, I use ITunes. Anyway may come in handy if you like your SD cards & Belero.

Just passing on the advice; I'm a technological numpty and had the same question as you several months ago. Somebody on here (I'm sorry, I forget who) explained it to me, allowing me to pass on my 'wisdom' to you!

Hi, I'm something of a computer numpty so could some switched on cookie tell me how to take my itunes contents and store them on an SD card so I can play them in the Yeti please as at the moment it just says "No music files stored on card". Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can, unless they are in .mpeg or .wav format.

I use a SanDisk 4GB SDHC card that I initially bought on Amazon to use in a Camera but the got my Yeti. I maybe used the CD player once in the first week of having the car and never since.

I keep a mix of my favourite/current music plus some streamed/recorded radio programmes from the web (good for podcasts too) and rotate the selection around every three weeks or so.

Works a treat.

Also so convenient that, last week, when I had an Octavia from my local garage for 24 hours (wife's Roomster in for a Service/MOT) I took my SD card with me and had my current listening immediately to hand. Brilliant.

In ITunes right click over the song(s) you want click "Create MP3 version" you will then see two of each song.

Right click over the song click "Show in windows explorer" Open the folder of your SD card either from 'my computer' or by right clicking over Start 'Open windows explorer' resize the two windows so they are next to or above / below each other. Click on the songs (MP3 version) you want, (multiples by holding 'Ctrl' button) and drag and drop to SD card, simples!

Thanks Blum, do you have to do individual songs or can you do it for albums as well?

Erm, it doesn't work for me!

Songs bought on iTunes and are in mp4 format.

If I right click on a song it only gives the option to create AAC version.

Have tried a few iTunes to mp3 converter progs without success.

Do you know of one that actually works please?

And by the way the newer songs bought on iTunes do NOT have DRM anymore so you can rightclick and save as an MP3.

changed it to mp3 and hey presto.

i now have all the music bought on iTunes on the SD card in bolero.

Harry will be pleased :)

thanx Blum, for pointing me in the right direction

Pleasure... You are lucky all your music is pretty new then. I have TONS of music bought from iTunes in the bad old DRM days and they REFUSE to be saved as MP3 from within iTunes. Unless you buy software to fool iTunes into writing a CD to the hard drive ($39) or use the software for 15 days as per post 1 in that linked thread.

http://lyxus.net/idzr - if anybody needs a fast 32gb SD card

That is a really good price! I was too scared to get a Class 10 since some people on this forum have had problems with them, so I paid £19,99 for a 32GB Class 4 which has been stated is more than fast enough to play on the Yeti. Not used it yet since it only came last week. I'm still using the first 4GB one I put in the car last November (with the exact same music on it still too!)

Hi Blum

Thanks for that i have got futher than i have before I am using a apple Mac, would I have to go though all the itune songs duplicate them all so I have a mp3 copy then individually copy the mp3 version to my sd card then go back into Itunes and delete the mp3 copy ? I reckon that could take a long time or is there a faster way, PS I do not get my Yeti ( with a amundsen sat nav) for a few more weeks yet so I can not try the card but assume the songs on sd card must be in mp3 format

Yes, mp3

That's how I've done mine, it didn't take quite as long as expected because converting to mp3 takes seconds, and you can delete in bulk.....however not all tracks would convert to mp3 (tended to be those that I'd had for a while), therefore I converted/moved my library an album at a time.

One problem you might have if using a Mac is that there will be extraneous files on your SD card after you copy music files and once inserted in the Yeti these files (invisible on your Mac) will be all too evident on the Yeti - Trash files and unreadable versions of every song! Readable mp3's will be there but the Yeti system will have to sort through all these "unreadable" files before starting to play any music. Only way I have found to remove these extraneous files is to use a PC running windows which will show the extraneous files so you can delete them. If you do this then never connect the SD card to a Mac or all those deleted files come back! This is a real pain and I have yet to find a solution apart from using a PC and windows to get rid of the cr*p.

Wish Apple would sort this out.

Thanks Guys

I was able following the instructions to convert music files off my Mac in to Mp3 and save them on the SD card until I get my car I will not know how successful it has been

I'm sure they will be just fine.

Ummmm.... I dont think it will be sorted anytime soon as its not really a "problem" but rather the way Mac OS file system works. Other than that you are quiet right on how to address the issue and a solution for those that dont have a windows PC (or linux/unix PC as well) would be some virtualization software for their MAC. You can check two of the most known for Mac here:

Hope this will be of some help

Can someone please explain the benefits of using the SD option on the Bolero.

I am quite surprised at the quality of sound from the standard setup in my new Yeti.

I don't have a huge music library and find 6 CDs for top quality sound plus all my

music available via Bluetooth on my iPhone and easily controlled from the steering wheel

is pretty impressive.

I've never used SD cards before but my mac computer can write them so I was wondering

what benefit I might get by using them in the Yeti?

Sounds like it could be a bit of a faff compared to the BT iPhone option. Is the SD sound

better than that using BT? Changing CDs regularly is a bit of a pain but worth it if that

gives the best sound quality.

SDHC cards can be up to 32Gb so you can keep a large library of music on tap. With the Columbus you can copy 20Gb onto the HDD as well as the SDHC card.
