1 less VRS on the road :-(

Featured Replies

Hi all, haven't posted on here in a while but my search for a new car has brought me back.

my Mk1 yellow vrs got written off by a woman kindly flying straight across a give way on a nasty little crossroad on my daily trip to work. car is a total loss, front end is pretty much missing, both air bags went off, car landed backwards in some bushes. i got out with a few scrapes and a lot of bruises which almost 2 weeks on are still pretty painful!

i'm absolutely gutted to have lost the car, it was just the perfect car for me, looks, handling and power with plenty of room to be used as a family car, i bought it off a member on here, Mark AKA "mrhanky" and the car was previously owned by VRSPete who i'm not sure if he's still around on here?

i'm so impressed with how the car stood up to the impact, that's why i'm looking for another, even the police who arrived first at the scene said they were suprised to see me stood at the side of the road with fairly minor injuries.

ideally i'd like a Mk2 vrs but i don't think my budget is going to stretch to one without intergallactic miles on the clock so i'm more likely going to go for a late Mk1. The alternative to another octavia is a leon cupra R but the boot just seems tiny after having the massive octavia boot for so long!

Glade to hear that you are OK, sounds a bad crash.

Would be useful to see some pics to show members how these cars stand up to a major impact.

Damn thats a sickener, just glad to hear you are okay. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I didn't get any pictures, got carted away in an ambulance from the scene as I was in shock and the world just wasn't looking good! The car got picked up eventually by co part so I guess they'll end up selling it off once my insurance has been settled so I expect to see pictures on their site at some point.

Really sorry to hear this and am gutted for u, I think I'd definitely buy another mk1 if something where to happen to my current one it's just a car I love, having owned it almost a year I still love everyday of it and enjoy it, hopefully u find another one that u can enjoy again

York u pull it has been advertising in the local press and one of the cars is a yellow vrs. No info on their site about it though, think it's been in 2 weeks now. Think it was £1295 to remove all the parts

Soz about your car m8 glad you're ok

Such a difficult colour to spot emoticon-0136-giggle.gif Glad your ok thoughemoticon-0148-yes.gif

I remember that car when in Pete's ownership. Was a well maintained and pretty quick motor! Sorry to hear it's dead now, but at least it did the job is was designed to do in a crash.

Glad to hear your ok and the car did what it was designed to do

But given the choice of an Octavia or a cupra R the cupra would be my choice. The boots aren't that much smaller iirc.

Andy68, you wouldn't believe the amount of people I had pulling out on me in the 2 and bit years I had that car!

Thanks for the messages folks.

Glad you're okay.

Shame about the car but in the end it's just a car I guess.

How do you miss a bright yellow vrs, they dont exactly blend into the background,

Altho saying that am doing alot more town driving than i used to and the amount of people that just pull out or arn't paying attention is scary sometimes

Maybe the colour makes it look like it's going slower? Cant remember the last time i saw a yellow car go fast, Most yellow cars are small slow things.

Just an idea :)

Sorry to hear about your accident, glad your ok.

Apart from the ' boy racer' brigade cutting me up etc, I have found I drive a lot more defensivly with this one, people dont seem to think ahead any more.

I wonder if she was on her mobile?, that seems to be on the increase again. How can you miss a yellow Vrs?, they arnt exactly small.

Anyway enough of my ranting, good luck with finding a replacement

Although this document is aimed at clothing as opposed to vehicles, the content is nevertheless relevant, I have quoted part of the conclusion which also contains some general related content.

Then there's the topic of the “camouflage effectâ€, visual clutter along with in car distractions.

what is most ironic is the combine (?) above appears to have flattened a ......... SKODA !!!!

That would be the "general related content". ;)

lol. might need a bit of cash my way too. sure you don't want to swap it for a kit car? that's for sale!

had a conversation with my insurers today and we've agreed a price, £3250 which i'm not too upset about, i paid 4k for the car 2 and a bit years back so £750 depreciation in that time i don't think is bad at all.

just need a find another for that sort of money now, i think i'm going to have a hard time, without blowing my own trumpet, my car was at a very high standard and i don't want to move backwards in condition.

i think i'm through with modified daily drivers now though, just too much hassle with the insurance when things do go wrong!

Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you walked away from it, that's the main thing

How much you looking to spend this time round? After another yellow one?

  • Author

I actually quite fancy one in red but I believe that's quite a rare colour? Not sure I'd want another in the same colour, my mind is still doing strange things after the accident.

I'd say 3.5k - 4k is absolute tops I'd want to spend and at that i'd have to beg borrow and steal! got a rug rat due in October so seems daft spending too much on a new car for myself.

See a fair few red on sale, and around and about. Not sure in terms of total numbers sold mind you. Corrida is my personal favourite for the Mk1 anyway :)

Can understand why you'd not want another yellow one...

I'm after a saph

that's what mine is. bloody money pit but i wouldn't part with it unless a big wedge of cash was involved. it stands me at probably 3 times what it'll ever be worth!
