clutch

Featured Replies

At the risk of stating the obvious... if you are going to get Shark to stage 2 it I'd ask Shark what they'd recommend.

Would be interested to know what people think of that clutch?

There's someone on here with one. His only running remapped power with it, but last I heard said he had no issues. But then if you don't drive like a tool, a standard clutch would be too.

What is it that causes the chatter and when does it happen just when the clutch pedal is pressed down?

The DMF is designed to absorb vibrations where as the SMF is solid and just rattles/chatters. It makes the noise when the clutch is up unless you're in gear doing over about 1.5k RPM.

Quite suprised at the chatter from Helix SMF clutch!

Are all SMF's like this?

Are they any other performance clutches out there that dont do this?

Yup all smf's do it. There's performance clutches but they'll always be restricted by the weak link of the DMF

Can't do the gearbox much good ..............

Big torque spikes on the PD130

Yeah I heard that, but massive lack of anyone who has actually had broken gearboxes because of a SMF means I'm thinking it's just theory till then.

I'd be more inclined to think it would do more damage to the engine bearing's before it starts doing any damage to the gearbox. All those undampened vibrations going through the end of the crankshaft will be shortening the life of the engine components in my eye's. Does the vRS not have a crankshaft pully fitted with a dampening ring?

Out of people who have fitted a SMF, has anybody bothered to get it checked out as to wether the clutch is balanced as a complete unit before fitting? You'd be surprised just how far out of balance a new clutch pressure plate can be, even for a performance item.

When on a balancing machine with a clutch assembley fitted it's rather easy to see it's out of balance due to the movement sidesways on the supports. Perhaps this sideways movement is being transferred into the chatter that is heard?
