£540 from Admiral for me & thats with zero NCD

I had best quote with Kwik fit last year at £306, this year they wanted £540 WTF. They are like mobile phone companies once they have you they don't care about you. So this year i went with Hastings direct which was cheapest around at £360.

I can beat that last year i paid 540 with privilege, this year i got my renewel through and it was 1024, phoned them up and told them where they could stick it,

Now insured with adrian flux on a modified policy, suspension, air filter, stage one map,

Now paying 640 which i think is still extorsionate 28 years old, 6 years no claims no accidents and 3 points on licence on a 51 plate vrs

Good price there, the diesel are a lot cheaper than the vrs's. I accidently selected a diesel for my VRS and it was less than £280.

yep think im gona say im working and save anotha £300

I'd be careful about repeating Quotes on the same Comparison site over and over again. When i was looking at getting my VRS i ran three or four quotes on Comparethemarket over the space of a couple of weeks, just to try and get an idea of running costs. The details hadnt changed one bit, but the quotes still kept getting higher and higher.

The other thing that amazed me was that Bell, who are a subdivision of Admiral, managed to quote me £350 cheaper than Admiral did on my renewal.

In the end i went to Brentacre, they themselves couldnt provide a competetive quote, but almost bent over backwards for me to find someone who could. They ended up saving me about £125 on my best comparison site quote.

Cheers

Unemployed are a higher risk, its that simple. Reason being the car is more likely to be driven more, especially during the day. Most employed people drive to work, and leave the car in the office car-park where it will sit all day not being a risk to the insurer. Some careers also push the premium up quiet a lot as well.

The reason for the increases in recent times, is also simple. There are a lot of uninsured drivers, a lot of fraudulent claims and more besides. Sadly we have the "Where theres blame, theres a claim" culture of today to blame for our increased premiums.

When I was 22 in the early 1990s, I was paying £600 F/comp to insure a 2.8 Litre petrol guzzler. Even then that was expensive for me,

And sadly the truth is most of these 'bad' insurance companies make zero profit on the premium you pay vrs claims costs they have to pay out. The only thing that is wrong is those insurers who get commission or referral fees for passing details of claimants to no win no fee lawyers, who then try to get you to make substantial and sometimes overinflated claims (e.g whiplash damage) and then also pass on their overinflated costs to the insurer - result - higher premiums. :'(

Of course car insurers also end up paying for the fact that some other forms of trasnport (e.g. cycles) still do not need to have any insurance to ride on our roads, although this is probably the subject of another thread.

Briskoda has three affiliated club insurers, have you tried them?

The unemployed are more likely to drive off-peak at safer times and do considerably less mileage!

I should think it is more that 'unemployed' i.e. no visible income, hides a fair range of undesirable types in the black economy/minor criminals/drug dealers and probably there is a higher rate of fraudulent claims - lose job, can't afford/sell car, so it mysteriously gets stolen or torched.

DCould you do some charity/voluntary work and use that as your employment? just a thought
