VRS Front Tyre Wear

Featured Replies

They only issue I've had with the sidewall is when the psi is slightly down. So long as they hard they seem fine.

Tbh tho I dint think it would matter what tyre you had on if you throw the heavy vrs at a corner the sidewall would have some give

i can see your point about any tire and the cars weight but personally i have never experienced such scarey "wobbling" is the best way to describe it than i have with these tires the original Conti3's were great if noisy and on the limit, whish i bought them or some PS3's now, current tires have done about 1000miles too  ah well you live and learn, only saving grace is in the wet at sensible speeds you are 100% safe with these tires.

I got Michelin Pilot Exalto on my PD170,19000 miles and still a few hundred miles left in them, driving normally not wheel spinning etc.

Grizzle

Never had an issue with wobbling/hopping on or near the limit.

I got 14.5k miles out of the factory fit Conti 2 on my 2009 Octy VRS 170 CR DSG. There was a little tread left, but heading in to the winter at the time I didn't fancy leaving it any longer.

i must drive like a old man, i seem to be getting alot more miles out of a tyre than others on hear. must look into that situation lol.

The majority of tyre wear doesn't really seem to come from high speed since the Tyres are rated to a higher speed than the car.

It all comes from the hard cornering and the pulling away/braking quickly.

Moral of the story - if you're getting lots of miles out of the Tyres then your not pushing hard enough at corners :)

We have done 15000 with the front on the front. I swapped them front to rear as the rear were saw-toothed. Now on 16500 miles and the still have life in them. In a 2010 VRS dag diesel estate. The tyres are the original dunlop tyres.

Another fan of the ContiSport 3. VRS Is nearly 14 months old and managed 19k for fronts (on third set from new) and 38 k for rears (just on second set) .

Car is mainly on the Motorway and carries approximatley 150kg of work gear in boot.

So you moved the fronts with a few mm to the rears and put the rears on the front because it has more tread? yeh best of luck on that mate, seriously bad move, always put the new tires on the rear. ;)

Sorry quote wrong person :giggle:

Why is it a bad move? if I kept the tyres on the front they would be below legal limit within no time and moving them to the back (which I should have done earlier) will save me from changing them within a few week to maybe a few months, if you are worried about grip levels then I have just driven 1800 miles across europe and driven through Romania whose major roads a similar to our B roads with no problems :)

D

I swapped mine round as after 15000 fronts had 5mm of tread in the middle and more on the shoulders and the rears 7mm. But the inner shoulder saw touthed and the car all ready traded in and don't want to buy new tyre before we get new VRS in September.

I read a wee topic once in auto express about what axle we should have the most tread on, alot of the so called pros, or people in the know or think there good drivers think we should have the most tread on the rear as (they) think if a car slides at the back we wont be able to control it, as most drive fwd cars and never driven a rwd car and dont't know how control a rear end slid but can control a front end understeer.

Well I had the factory Conti Sport Contact 2's replaced with Contact 3's at 12.5k and now they are due for replacement in a couple thousand which will mean they have lasted 15.5k, slightly better. I'm just debating whether to change brand or stick with Conti?

I've heard the Goodyear Eagle F1's are a good choice?

Very happy with my GY assymetric2's.

Moved on from Conti's to Michelin Pilot Sport 3 and have to say the dry grip is as good but the wet grip is in another league!

Wearing better to!

20k from my last set of Maxxis MAZ1 I dive a twisty 'A' troad every day. Not so much motorway driving.

Very happy with my GY assymetric2's.

+ 1 much better then conti's in the wet
